Towing capacity reduced?

When and why did GM lower the towing capacity on the 2014 Silverado? I just bought mine this week, 5.3 with 3:42 rear, 4x4 LT in forest green. I looked in the owners manual before buying it showed 15000 CGWR. The window sticker says 7200 for the truck. A few days later I run across the small 1 page supplement to the owners manual with the weight reduction to 7100 and 12500. OUCH! Dealer never said a thing.

The numbers you are quoting are for the v6 not the 5.3.

 

I know 3.08 gear tow ratings were lowered however that was a misprint from the start.

To me those numbers are for ballpark comparisons. There are an assortment of variables that go into towing safely, and the whole range of road types, trip lengths, driver experience and more. I kinda want a fair margin between those top numbers and reality.

BigBad, Thank you for correcting my error. Some how I really misread that supplement. I feel much better now.
