Brake Light Switch

Is there anyway to adjust the switch that turns on the brake lights? When I need to disengage my cruise control I have to press the brake pedal farther than I prefer. This is on a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab.

20 bucks for a new one and 10 minutes of your time. Done.

I use the steering wheel control to cancel mine. Much easier than using the brake pedal.

No.

The brake light switch was often the cause for trouble with the cruise control (GMT900).

Your case is a little different.

But I'd change the switch anyway. I think GM changed the design for the new switch.

And yes if you have warranty left take it to the dealer.

If you want/have to do it your self I would recommend to buy the original part at the dealer.

Thanks everyone! My current switch is working fine, I just would like for my brake lights to come on after just touching the brake pedal. I feel like I have to push the pedal so hard that my brakes start to engage before my cruise turns off.

As j-ten-ner states above, this was a common problem with the newer trucks. If your cruise control isn't turning off, then your brake lights are not coming on either. My 2008 had the same problem with the brake lights not coming on even though the brakes were being applied (Kind of a dangerous situation). Also, my cruise control would not disengage correctly. Take it in and have them replace the brake light switch uner the dash.

I'm sorry but if you have to push your pedal that far then your switch is not working fine. I'd do like everyone else is saying, replace it as this is a safety type item that needs attention.
