Retrax Pro issues

I already posted this in the retrax section, but wanted to hit a larger audience...

I bought my retrax from a dealer who did my spray in liner and he's always done a good job on my truck. In April he put the retrax pro on my truck and it has always leaked. I've taken the truck to him 3-4 times and never have gotten a solution. We've tried reinstalling, putting in some shims to the rails to push the cover closer to the gasket, and all I got when I called retrax directly was "no cover is completely waterproof"

Does anyone else have one and get water? I know it's hard to gauge, but how much is "to be expected?" because I think im getting too much. Im even a light rain it leaks straight in where the weather stripping is located on both rails as well as smack dab in the middle where each panel meets.

Thanks for helping

No; the 14's came with that cover on the rail so it is sprayed under only.

I took a hose to it when I've been fiddling and concluded water gets in between the rail and the cover (thru that weather strip) and between the panels.

I guess all I am asking is if other folks have the same cover, and dont get water, I know I do have a problem. If everyone is getting some...it may just be a bad product. Or, what I am really hoping for, anyone have any suggestions to fix it?

Yes I know, I have one, just checking. I've installed roughly 40-50 Retrax on all types of trucks, never had one come back (now I probably will after saying this) - knock on wood. Roll-N-Lock's are a different story. Without seeing your's it's hard to say.

Retrax Pro. Installed Jan 2014 and thus far have experienced no leaks and I installed it myself including the Retrax tailgate gaskets.

Would y'all happen to know where the drain hole is for the Retrax cover? I want to order one but don't want to drill into the bed unless I really have to. Thanks.

Hey Mpulse, do you have the wide rails or the narrower rails? Do you have the cut-outs for the stake holes? I wonder if that makes a difference in the way it seals?

Long story short here, I am on my second RetraxPro, the first one was almost water tight, this second one is not much better than no cover at all. Not mad about it just a little disappointed because this one is not as good as the first one. Son-in-law has the first one on his truck and he will get less that 1/2 cup total and I will have a gallon or more with trucks sitting side by side in the same rain. :jester:

Jim,

To what do you attribute the differences in water protection? Install? Model? Spray in liner (or not)?

Weatherstripping? Something else? Certainly, you must've looked to try and figure it out....

I'm about to pull the trigger on the retrax pro and for the price, I don't want a gallon of water every time it rains. I'm concerned now and would like to learn how to avoid the same issue. Thanks for any insight.

I just installed some new brackets under the cover about two weeks ago, and we added some foam tape under the Retrax rails. The body shop guys that put the replacement cover on my truck had it crooked so that is one reason it may have been leaking to begin with. It has snowed and rained since I did that and it is some what better. The company that put the brackets on the truck commented about how bad the installation was on the cover, so I would tell you to either check it yourself or have someone that does installs to check and see what problems they might find. Also I have a under rail spray in bed liner in my bed. Also mine is the regular rail Retrax, I just found out about the full rails after the body shop got my new cover in. Hope this helps, I am waiting for the rain tonight and may put some silicone around the inside edge of the bed rails. Good luck!! :jester:

Jim, thanks for the reply. I do plan on keeping a close eye on my installer but I'm not real sure what to look for.

I watched the guys do it this time and they spent a lot of time measuring to make sure it was square with the bed of the truck on the front and rear, our truck beds taper to the back. It is raining hard here right now and I did not stop to see how much water was in mine but I'll let you know tomorrow how it worked out. :jester:
