22" Wheels Question

Recommended Posts

I am in the final days before I place my order and I want to iron out which wheels I want. I'm looking at the 22" wheels that have "black inserts" and there is the same wheel without the black inserts. Are the black inserts removeable because the picture makes it seem like they are held in by two little bolts. If they are removeable, what is the finish like behind them...as in would the finish match the rest of the wheel? That way I could decide which I like better simply being removing the insert.

Thanks.

Yes the insert is removable. There is actually 3 versions of those style wheels, silver with chrome inserts, silver with black inserts and compete silver NO inserts. It sounds like you are wanting the no inserts which is style CK163.

I'm not sure what finish is "behind the inserts" but even if it's silver I'm sure it wouldn't look good leaving the inserts off because it would show holes where the bolts go.

Ah, I just noticed that the no insert version doesn't have the bolts so yeah that'd look odd not having the inserts with bolts. I am leaning toward the all silver with no inserts. One item I also just noticed is that the GM website shows 7 spoke silver wheels while the accessory brochure from the dealership yesterday shows 6 spoke chrome wheels. I wish I could find some images to compare the two.

This is not a GM wheel... it's a knockoff on eBay, but if you're interested in aftermarket, these are pretty sweet!

Here is another question. I'm curious about the pricing of 3k for the 22s. If I buy the rims on that website from post# 4 and then tires separately I'm looking at ~$3k OTD. Then I would sell the factory 20" wheels with less than 20 miles on them. Wouldn't the 20s with tires fetch 1k and be pretty easy to sell? If so, why would I pay for the 22" option wheel at the dealer when I could order 22s myself and eventually save 1k or so? Am I missing something?

I guess the main question would be, how easily would factory 20s with tires sell that had about 20 miles of use on the tires?

New take-offs sell fast. You can expect around $1500 for 20's or $1700 for 20's with sensors. A lot of guys who have 18's that need to replace the tires go ahead and upgrade to new 20" wheels and tires.

PS... local sale is always better, like Craigslist, etc., but this forum does pretty well for wheel and tire sales. Just be sure to specify "Buyer pays shipping".

Excellent, thank you. You think the guys with the 18 upgrading would be turned off if they were denali wheels since those have the logo on the centercap and it wouldn't match their truck?

EDIT: nevermind I don't think those factory rims have the denali logo on them.

It's all relative to your area...DFW area tx edition gmc and Chevy 20s go for 900-1000...All terrain and ltz chrome 20s about 1100-1200 and Denali wheels 1200-1350..where are you located?

And your definitely not missing anything on the factory 22" upgrade pricing it's complete BS that they don't credit you something for giving up the 20s when building the truck

I'm located in Cincinnati Ohio. I'm estimating low and thinking $1k for the denali rims and tires. It requires that I front the $3k instead of it being lumped in the payment, but $1-1.5k is a good chunk of money so I think it's worth the effort to try and sell. Worst case is I have full set of spares if they never sell.

All that's really left is to call the Laura GMC dealership in Illinois tomorrow to confirm they can't beat the price I received from a Cincinnati dealership yesterday and if not then place my order on Tuesday locally.

Even in Cincinnati area I think you're WAY low for $1000 for Denali wheels and tires. You put them on Craigslist and they'll be gone in 10 minutes for that price.
