Road crown compensation

I was searching across something unrelated and came across this article:

Page 3 middle column under the description of the Electric Power Steering there's this nugget:

In addition to smooth road shake, road crown is compensated for by the steering wheel angle sensor signal, which calculates the intended driving direction.

I drive on a 4-lane divided highway that has a crown almost precisely located on the dashed center line. I let go of the wheel and the truck will drift left or right depending on my lane choice (away from the crown) and I have to dial in correction. No biggie from the perspective of normal...but.

Anyone else experience this?

Yeah, that's normal. I'd rather have alignment dialed in for "straightness" than compensated for road crown.

Agreed...if my interpretation is correct you steer straight, the eps provides assistance without you having to dial in correction yourself. Wonder what the limits are.

Same here. My truck drifts with the slightest of angle toward the low side. Very little effort, if measurable, has to be added to keep it where I want it.

This is a characteristic of the EPAS. I never noticed this on a Hydraulic assist steering before.

It is interesting that before you get an alignment they recommend a steering angle sensor alignment. Makes sense when you think about it.
