Airbag Light On - Any Common Causes?

The airbag light on my parents 04 Silverado is on. Are there any common causes for this? (or any known diagnostic procedures?) Or should I plan on spending big $$ at dealer? Thanks guys.

Just a quick thing you could check is the wires underneath the driver/passenger seat goin to a silver box, same thing happened to my 04 silverado, just needed to fix the connections

From what I've read up on this when my '06 Airbag light starting coming on is there are numerous things. So it would be better to just go to a shop or dealer and pay to have it scanned. That way you'll have the code to go by rather then guessing at parts replacements. Local auto parts store scanner may not pick up the code, as I found out with that truck.

Front crash sensors are very common. Scan it though, as you may find a different code for an airbag or the airbag module itself. Gotta find a shop that has a good scanner or take it by the dealer and have them scan it with the GM tool. Won't get airbag codes out with a handheld code reader.

Can I disconnect/reconnect that box without having an unintended deployment? I saw that box, was about to do it, but then opted not to. I pushed the connections on the front crash sensors to make sure they were tight. Can I disconnect/reconnect those? Rob, these are the only things I can think that I'm capable of myself (prior to taking it in). Do you think any of these actions would cause deployment?

You can disconnect the battery and turn the headlights on then disconnect the module and reconnect it then hook the battery back up, but you are just pissing in the wind, you need to take it to the dealer or reputable mechanic and have them scan it. It could be any number of things from a bad sensor to a bad airbag module to a clock spring or a weight sensing module ( not sure if that model had this or a on off switch), but tell them to scan it only not to fix it unless you choose to and most of the time they will charge about an hour.

It will not deploy , I just disconnect airbags if I'm takin a steering wheel off , done it a thousand times
