Chevy disses new aluminum body F150

I just read an article saying that Chevy says the aluminum body is just a nice update. What are your thoughts?

I think the new aluminum fords are a pretty good idea. Its always nice to see new things and innovation.

 

Hopefully it leads to the other manufacturers upping their game and using aluminum or other alloys as well.

I'm not one of the people that call it an aluminum can or anything. I know that the body panels aren't really what protect you these days in an accident. It's more of what I call the chassis (not frame, I know some call the frame the chassis). The only thing I would worry about is cost to fix. The aluminum itself cost more and from what I understand aluminum is probably the hardest metal to weld. I know the hood on the K2s are aluminum, but that's just one part. I'm not really against an all aluminum body, it just makes me wonder about the cost and ability to fix. When I say fix, I don't mean pounding out dents, I mean replacing the whole panels or parts of panels.

I would rather see some kind of chromoly body panels. Talk about dent resistance.

the specialized tooling required to MAKE Carbon Fiber Panels are in the BILLIONS; and Carbon Fiber is really only a One Shot Deal, you damage the panel, you have to COMLPLETELY Replace it.

Just saw a new F150 at the grocery store. They are uglier in person. Im sure the interior is nice, this was a Lariat model, but damn i cant get past the front end

Sure, in about 20-40 YEARS. I bet most manufacturers will go for plastics before Carbon Fiber.

IMO plastic is the future.

 

And before anyone gets excited to get a "plastic truck"...it's not the fender what's pulling the trailer.

Not a fan at all of the new fords, mainly because I greatly dislike the Eco-Bust motor and i think a truck should sound manly, not like a Ricer

 

Its still really ugly in the front and ford saved all that weight to weigh the same as Chevy with steel.... Chevy doing simple things to achieve greatness while Ford takes the really complicated route to achieve the same as Chevy

GM Has done the composite thing. Remember the composite Pro-Tec beds? The tailgates that had the raised Chevrolet logo made into it? I liked the idea. Not sure how expensive it was to make though.

If I remember correctly, both the C/K and GMT 800 stepside trucks had a composite bed skin, with the inside being steel.
