Turbocharging

Hello,

I have a 2004 6.0 Escalade and I've finally saved the money for a serious upgrade. I've decided to buy a turbo but a lot of the manufactured kits are no longer in stock. Does anybody have an thoughts on a kit and where I might find it? I have a lot of thoughts on the different kits but no proof either way. I currently have an HP Tuner which I haven't much figured out but I'm hoping I can use it for the after install tuning. I have long tube headers but I'll probably take those out since I'm tired of uninstalling them every two years for smog.

Anything is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Patrick

With smog a turbo is not your friend. The STS rear mount i think is smog friendly, but NONE of the others are. If you want smog friendly power a Magnacharger MP112 supercharger is what you need. You will be pulling all the turbo crap off every 2 years and trying to bring it to stock to pass smog

California requires a CARB number on this stuff now, so far 14 other states have adopted California's regulations. In the next couple years a few more will. Under regulations and this is nationwide, you can not change the location or number of cats. Look at long term not what you want to do now. Tuning isnt the issue. My tune was pretty radical for a stock engine and passed smog. These guys look at parts installed. you arent supposed to alter exhause before the rear o2 sensor with the exception of approved manifolds. If you can catch hell for headers, you will catch more for a turbo that comes into play up by the engine. If you want it to pass with no issue get the STS rear mount turbo kit if you are dead set on a turbo. If you want more power and no issues the Magnacharger MP112 is what you need. I cant make the choice for you. I can just give you the info on emissions testing.

If the STS is the only smog option then that's my choice but I'll look into Magnacharger for sure. If I do go with the STS I would like to use my HP Tuner but some STS turbos come with the Diablo Predator Tuner which I don't want because I already have the HP.

You do not have to use the tuner they give you. To pass smog you need to get the kit with the tuner, but it doesnt have to be used. You will have better performance from a full custom tune

I didn't see you were in Cali....

How is that a concern? The knowledge in giving you applies to more than California. Like i said 14 other states have adopted CA emissions requirements and more are coming. Im goving you info to prevent you from having issues in the future. Also a turbo before the cats causes issues ANYWHERE they do testing because the piping is altered prior to the cats

TVS1900 is CARB compliant for that year.

For 04? On SUV's only or both sUV and truck?

Sorry about that, just double checked, only the Radix is CARB approved for that year.

That is the MP112 right?
