Windshield Cost?

Recommended Posts

I've been quoted $235 CDN + environment tax and GST etc.. for my 2014 Sierra SLE 1500.

I was expecting a lot more.

Does this sound about right?

My insurance covered my windshield free of charge. Most insurance policies do. Considered a safety hazard, so it shouldn't raise your rate

No glass coverage.

Most people don't bother out west here. The roads are covered in grit for 6 months of the year and glass coverage is very high.

Thats a Great Price with labor and Yes out West here we don't bother. I paid $150 in 1998. So thats about right.

But then It goes to show you HOW CHEAP Glass is?

I don't want to tell you How Much it really costs....But just subtract $50 for labor and then divide it in half twice.

Thats what it cost them! Remem...Chiner now makes Glass. So before install

OK, just had the windshield replaced.

For the record; no insurance; installed price:

$263.17 CDN (including all fee and taxes)

(That's $210.60 US at todays exchange rate)

Can I ask where you were quoted this price? I'm in Burlington, Ontario and it appears I'm going to need a new windshield as the wife took the truck to her work this morning and with no cars or anything around her, the windshield cracked right across......It was -23c at the time but could it possibly be a manufacturers defect?

Windsheilds are cheaper out there to replace because of that. So your price is most likely right.

My Friend lived out there and replaced his once a year.

It's like anything if you want aftermarket (I've installed for 15 years) which is the price your quoted. I can tell you most windshields are cheap junk. The Chinese are the worst by far they are dot 563 and 459 which if you call safe lite your getting Chinese. The bends in the glass are slightly off and the molding around the glass won't be perfect either. The factory dot is 287 made by vitro out of Mexico. Find a shop that can get that brand for you. Pilkington and Pgw will look ok but just being honest it won't be perfect. I don't know your situation though you might be happy saving a couple bucks and not have it perfect.

Windshields are relatively cheap compared to side windows. I paid well over $300, a dozen years ago, for a rear side in my GMT800 extended cab. I put in 3 PGW windshields in my last truck. First star crack happened within a half hour of buying the truck.
