Hello everyone, I'm new to your list and hope that it is a good one. I have a 1999 Tahoe that I have been working through, I have been wondering if there is such a thing as a heavy duty chain for the np246? I had bought a reman unit and had a chain failure, the rebuilder told me to not run in auto four wheel drive on pavement, and that when wheel spinning occurs on pavement. . . . . ice and dry, that that is what causes the driveline to shock and stretch the chain. Just wanted to ask some folks who may have been down this road as well. Thank you for reading and nice to meet you all.

John, you might have better luck getting your question answered in the Classic Truck forum. There is one for 1980 to 1999 Chevys.

Welcome! Not sure on the chain either. I have had auto 4x4 on last 4 trucks and never had an issue. I live in ND so it gets used frequently 5 months a year. If the roads are a little slick I just leave it on. I have driven 250+ mile trips with it on and no issues
