Supercharged 5.3L '06 Silverado

Have an '06 extended cab half ton Silverado Z71 4x4 and the truck runs awsome. I bought it new and immediately supercharged it to get 415hp and 400 ftlb of torque. I supercharged it to pull my 30ft travel trailer which weighs in at 7700lb. No problem towing up the mountains. It maintains the speed on most hills. However, I am noticing a slip when changing gears. Not so much when towing but when I get on it passing on two lanes it will slip then grap. Can this be repaired or will I have to foot the bill for a rebuilt? Truck has only 105,000 and great leather interior.

If you have a half ton you have the 4L60E which isn't exactly a bomb proof tranny. I'd say that mileage under the stress of towing and high hp/tq it may be starting to get a bit worn out.

They're very common though.

If you want one that's bomb proof, I'd try to see about doing an 80E retrofit. A good 80e could probably be had for fairly inexpensive. ($1000 or so?)

as far as whether or not its a bolt in on a 5.3.. eeh no. I think its the same length but iirc the 80e LQ4/9 engines use a different flex plate.

Your other option is a strengthened 60E. I don't have any recommendations for brand on those or pricing unfortunately. I was always planning to go the 80e route with mine. Wound up trading before I got that far tho.

These trucks got weaker servos than the 90s LT1 cars which were lighter with less HP. A well set Transgo kit might help some but would halve helped more some time in the past.

My best guess is GM was trying to soften the shofts so you couldn't feel them, hard smalling shofts is bad but so are overly soft ones.

Isn't the 80E a few inches longer? Wouldn't be a straight swap.

IIRC, the 4L60E is rated at 360 ft-lbs, and the stock 5.3 puts out 325, so not much room for power mods.

Plenty of companies do built /strengthened 4L60Es. Not sure if yours can be saved.

Almost everyone who runs a 4L60 in the trucks breaks them when they start putting down big power. If it breaks, it is cheaper to swap a 4l80 in with a shift kit and be done. But if you are trying to make yours last, keep torque management in it, do the servos, and keep it cool.

A big part of the 4L60's bad rap is a LOT of incompetent builders. It requires care to setup right and most just dump out the only parts and slap in the new without measuring clearances.

Go check performance trucks and see if people running 600 hp trucks will waste their time on a 4l60 regardless of the builder. The OPs truck should be fine with some minor upgrades but my point stands when you start making big power.

Thanks, I will work with my mechanic buddy and give him all of your suggestions. I suspect also a different torque converter.

From day 1 you should have had a transgo HD2 and super servo and billet 4th in the trans. The 80e is a great idea but the tuning, wiring, new supports and rails will be a pita
