Amp Power step trigger wire

Would it be ok to run a wire from the connection for the trigger wire in the door panels to run a small led on each door?

you mean to add lights to an amp step system? They should come with another wire for you to hook up the lights that come with the steps

Well this would be in addition to the lights that come with them. Id run these leds on the bottom side of each door panel as puddle lights. If itll work and be ok, I dont have to wite through the accordion boot into the cab. The wire I need would be in the door already

So this light would come on as your puddle light or it would only activate when the amp step lights are active?

Whenever the amp lights are on

I just realized what you are saying. I was thinking you wanted to put more lights where the amp lights are but now I think I realize that you meant you wanted to put lights on the bottom of the door, correct?

If that is what you are trying to do then I don't know if you can use the trigger wire that you plug into the OBD-II port. I would think you can but I don't want to say yes and then you try it and something happens.

EDIT: have you given thought to just replacing the AMP lights with a long LED strip? Thats what I did and so did TexasHusker (I got the idea from him) and it works great and with how much light it puts out, it'll throw light a few feet from the truck

Well im not getting the plug n play kit. Im getting the regular kit installed for 1200. I see no reason pating 200 more for having the same thing work both ways

ah, well then I'm really not sure if you can do it.

You could even go ahead and pull from the puddle light wires that go to each door. I know those activate when the truck is unlocked and when the doors get opened.

Unfortunately I dont have puddle lights or else I wouldnt bother! Lol

Just so you know, when these light strips are on, I can't even see my puddle light illumination because the strips are so bright. The puddle lights are good for illumination when doors are unlocked with lights on, but after the door is open, the step lights light up everything.

If didn't already have puddle lights, I wouldn't bother...

And I would gladly pay $200 more NOT to have an installer take my door panels apart to wire it in. I'm a little confused at your comment..."more for having the same thing work both ways"...what does that mean?
