GM CK164 22" wheels slightly damaged in transit by FedEx

So I received my 22's yesterday. Turns out FedEx did a number on two of the wheels. Boxes were busted to hell and straps were broken. The clear coat is compromised in a small area on the lip of the wheels.

Does anyone know that if this would be an issue for me down the road?

My thinking is, once the clear is chipped, things only get worse over time from there on. Would like to know for sure if anyone has experience with this.

They will corrode where the chips are. They'll need refinished.Claim it with FedEx.

I had similar problem with UPS on a set of wheels for my Corvette. Problem was each wheel and tire was only insured for $200 and with UPS if I processed the claim they take the tire and wheel. Unfortunately the tire alone was close to $300 so I ended up taking the wheel to be remand... at my cost of $250.

It really sucks but you need to know how much the insurance is for before you move ahead with a claim.

If the damage is just the clear coat I would clean the area after smoothing the spot (if necessary) and apply a could of coats of clear myself and chalk it up to experience. Best of luck with your dilemma.

I had a scratch on a wheel when I bought my truck. Laura GMC sent it to Dent Wizard for repair. They did an excellent job. I can't see any sign of the repair.

FedEx delivered 2 of my 4 new wheels like this this week too. Two boxes were beat to crap and two were perfect.

Once I opened the boxes and saw the damage i spoke with the company I purchased from and they offered me $50 for the damage. I laughed because I thought he was joking with me. At $280 a wheel I told them I would rather have two new ones.

Long story short I got the bad ones boxed back up and took to fedex store to return. As soon as they were scanned into the system they released an order for two more to be shipped. They can deal with the FedEx claim and I can have my new wheels.

Don't know if you could do something similar but it may be worth it.

Yes, it is possible. But when I came home and examined the shipment the tires where wrapped with shrink wrap and a cardboard cover was placed on the face side of each wheel. The one rear wheel had signs of a hole poked thru the cardboard about the size of a fist and it was dirty around the hole. When I unwrapped the tire I found this:

 

Yes it is possible that the damage occurred before but with the hold poked into the cardboard and the scratches directly under the hole in the cardboard I think not.

I have worked for Fedex for 18 years. Please note, that the shippers are not using adequate packaging. We have an engineering department that will, for free, help any customer design proper packaging.

 

 

Note all shipments must be able to withstand drops 6 feet to concrete.

Absolutely. We test to 30" but recommend 72".
