Need a bottom line here

I've been debating on getting 285/75/16 MTR's vs. the 305/70/16 for a while.  Started thinking that I didn't want to lift my ride and just wanted to add a lil traction for hunting/fishing (where I go is kinda hard to get to but doesn't require 6"s of lift and I'm not big into mudding as there aren't that many places to go in New Orleans since they closed the spillway down)

Then I went to Goodyear today to get some prices and the guy asked why I did't want to go with the 305 "stating that its just as tall as the 285, but its a lil over an 1" wider".  (after he pulled the demisions it is a lil over an inch wider and about the same height).

My question(s) is, how much will the 305/70 affect my performance. (I want to tone it down a lil anyway so I don't spin the tires all the time when I pull out in front of someone)  And do I have the 373's?  I've got the tow package so I would assume I do, right?  And how's the treadwear on the MTR's?  Also, is 941.00 including everything and an alignment high or low or normal?  Oh yeah, do you guys have any pics of a stock truck with a 305 tire on it?

once again, thanks for the time and help

Well, you're most likely going to wear the 305's out quicker because they are acutally wider than what is recommended for the stock rim. They will most likely "crown" in the middle because of the width lacking and wear quicker there than the edges unless you go with a wider wheel.

IMO,you'd be just a good with the 285's because a narrower tire is generally better in deep mud due to less turning resistance. It won't take quite as much power to move them and it will not put quite as much strain on driveline components such as bearings and cv joints.

great, thanks for the time and help yZR2k!  NOW, as far as the 285/75 go are they going to make my truck look like a truck?  Cause the 265 look like doughnuts...IMO?!  Any pics of a 285 mudder on a stock chevy?

Let me see if I can create another picturetrail account.  They just took mine offline.  I have some 285 BFG AT's on my truck.  It looks like a truck I think.

I have 285 BFG's on my 2500 HD . They look great mounted on the stock rims. I see you are running the 3.73 gears. You will notice loss of low end torque. I did to but I have the 4.10 gears so it isnt that much of a low end loss. I agree with YZR2K ,  you are going to wear the centers out quicker with wider tires mounted on the stock rims.

As  far as the cost you quoted it sounds high to me. My BFG's were $830 out the door including road hazard, balance and tax.

how did you get a different ratio?  someone at a dealer told me that changing from 373 to 410 would void my warranty...
