Thanks.

Part of me wants to try something a little different. Order a replacement for the "backup lights" switch to say "Driving Lights" and use 1 set of those $23 LEDs in my grill. The backup lights can PROBABLY run off the LED bed rail harness at the back of the truck through the factory cargo lamp switch. I dont know that that's true but.. speculating. I hate to run a wire all the way down my frame for no reason ya know?

Check out my YouTube channel, I have my reverse flush mount leds on my bumper connected to my tail light reverse and work with no issues. I also added flush mount led lights on my grill. Just YouTube search Jorge Rangel. I have like 70 videos

I think I suddenly know who you are!

I think I used your video as a how-to to take my grill off. You had a MUCH better method than the "professionals" at an aftermarket grill manufacturer recommended.

Your video was installing anzo headlights.

Turns out I won't be needed the Flush mount kit. I did 3 on the bottom and 2 on top and they fit perfect, we'll sort of lol I had to remove the 2 middle clips but they aren't needed to hold the price In place.

I put aux lights on my Silverado. I didn't want to drill a hole in my dash to mount a switch. I wanted something simple that I could remove in the future if I wanted. So I made this bracket at work. Painted it black. Has enough space for two switches. I personally don't like the switch I mounted. It came with my ridged industries harness and I had a hard time finding a three position switch. so I just kept it. Will probably paint the red part black. The cubby hole already has a hole in the back to run wires which is convenient.

OK so it did make it in today! Which was perfect because it was 69 and sunny outside and I had my afternoon free, so I wasted no time!

First, a review of the OtrattW switches and switch bezel: Top notch. The switch mechanics are VERY nice. The etching looks great. You can tell this is a quality product. The bezel clicked together with no issue, I would recommend them!

OK, so onto the bezel part of the install. (I have something to order before I can actually wire all this and I need a lot more time for that. Unless someone wants to buy the rims I have for sale. [emoji38] )

This part was fairly easy. I'm by no means good at cosmetic modifications like this so for it to turn out good for ME? It will turn out great for you.

I used my dremel and 3 bits. A thin cutting/grinding disc, a cutting pencil tip, and a large abrasive block that looks like a rocket cone.

I covered the plate in painters tape, since its a cosmetic piece. This plastic is VERY fine and makes a particle mess. It cuts very easy and seems to have a low melting point. You will get dirty! USE EYE PROTECTION!

I used the bottom edge of the factory hole for the trailer brake as my bottom line, then drew it out with a straight edge. I then traced the box lining it up with the line I drew and "best guess" centered it. Looking at it now it's a bit to the right but, it's not bad!

This is the bezel. It's pretty deep as you can see. It interferes a bit with the factory clips for the trailer brake harness. You don't have to "remove" them per say.. they kind of break off depending on where you do your cutting. I cut right through 2 of the 3 that are there. The bottom one isn't a problem since its lower for the 4wd controls.

First cut out. I cut it close with the disc and then finished the corners with th pencil tip. See all that mess? Thats the powder and chunks it left behind. (My workbench is also kind of dirty in this spot cos I do all my cutting here.)

The switch plate didn't fit yet, the corners were too tight, as expected.

You can see here how close the hole is to the edges of the factory trailer brake clips. I wound up tweaking them off with scissors, vynil scissors (for some leverage) and part of the abrasive cone bit.

It fits! Oops.. I even clicked it in by mistake. I had to stop here and get it out so that I could get the tape off.

100_5882.jpg

The rough cut hole is about as well as I'd expect a hand cut hole to be for me anyway. I didn't do much damage to the bezel otherwise. I did knick it in one spot when the pencil tip bounced, but its VERY small and I'm not fussed about it. It looks like a water spot or something. You'd only notice it if you were cleaning for a car show or something.. its that small.

Switch bezel in place. Fits great! It doesn't look that out of place either.

The 2 switches I ordered are just sitting on the bezel. they have a special removal tool so if you click them in they aren't coming out. I wanna get them wired up before I click them in. Still, this shows you how they match up to the head light switch.

Did you get a chance to get your stuff on the truck? Got any pics

I'm waiting on 2 wire harnesses before I can install it. One for the RAP circuit and one for the LED backup lights.

They'll be in in a week or 2.

After that.. I wont be working on the fog lights until I get another ~$1000 or so to blow on this.. because I need a new grill and headlights.

So it may be a while. :(

Fudge lol. Long time. Do you have a pic of just the switch mount on the truck. I want to see how it looks. My switches won't be here till next week

I haven't needed to go into the dash for any reason, so its still sitting on my kitchen counter.

I might could put it in the truck tomorrow though and snap a pic. The switches are still out though.

Take a picture with the switches on it in the truck. I just wanna see how it looks. Sucks waiting for switches coming from China

They're not clicked in all the way, so they don't sit as flush as they will when its done.

But here's sort of the mock-up.

That looks nice, almost looks like if it was from factory.

    • Length/amount of data capture will be important to consider, sifting through 5 minutes of a data log can be enormous when it is stored in milliseconds. Being able to find the 'event' let alone decipher it.   Presumably the driver would notice something and hit a button to capture the 'window' of data. That window has to be large enough for the operator to recognize the event and react accordingly.    The data has to be able to be retrieved easily.   The data has to be able to be understood. Which is the biggest challenge, dealer techs won't even know what most of it is and would likely not even look at it if an owner brought it to them. Meaning the owner, the least educated/qualified, trying to understand it.    How will the data be presented? Could specific PIDs be selected and a timelapse graph be watched? How will a specific value be noted as abnormal? Additionally, a good data logger would be able to 'learn' normal values for a specific vehicle and flag abnormalities automatically. It could in theory watch parameters degrade over time and suggest maintenance as needed. (If the MAF reading begins tapering off for a given set of other readings - MAP, throttle position, Ambient, etc.. a flag to check air filter.) With the amount of data available, a device (really the vehicle rather than an additional accessory) should be able to do more than issue a DTC. It should be able to run the full diagnostic suite automatically and present a solution rather than a code. (It's not the 90's anymore). The technology is available for the vehicle to not just say "P0087", it should know low fuel pressure, check other PIDs to narrow down the problem itself, and determine if it is a lift pump, high pressure pump, regulator, leak in the fuel line, clogged filter, etc. Even if it can't narrow it down, it should be able to guide the user to the likely problems.   This would be a major problem for dealer service departments, which are the manufacturers customers it is in their collective best interest to NOT have this available to the consumer.   Further, if the owner is going to be the primary consumer of the data, it's got to be at a consumer price point vs. dealer only specialty tool price.   This group is more 'involved' in their vehicle than general public/consumer and will have knowledge, experience, needs and desires that are quite different from the market at large.
    • I put the prof up. If you read what I posted. You can see that housing, cars and income are in line with the era we were talking about. It’s harder in some places easier in others. Let’s agree to disagree and put this back on track, OK? We both are pretty stubborn and hard headed. But I bring receipts. If you wish I will not respond to you in the future.
    • Lets see if I can sum up two pages of nothing useful.    You want to refute your own governments data of the "Purchasing Power" Index FOR THE ENTIRE USA and its territories replacing it with the experience of a single family and its business and label that reality?  Then pound on that for a week hoping it will find traction?    Stan, I've told you several times. I don't do irrational. There are more people in the USA than your family.    I'm pretty sure this tread is so blown up. I'll give you a few days or months if need be to post yourself silent then I'll see if I can find enough parts of the train to reassemble it.
