2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Problems

So I bought my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 4.3 v6 crew cab about a month ago. Love the truck inside and out. Started to notice rough idle couple weeks ago which led me to this forum. The vibration is different then most on this forum. Mine is rough during idle and pretty good while driving. I popped the hood while the engine was on and noticed it vibrating hard. I was told it was the fuel injectors by my local gm dealer. So I figure it was normal. Then I started to notice more problems. I started noticing everytime I gas the truck and let go, I would always get a clunk. When I brake, the truck seems like it wants to take off. Kinda like I'm gasing at the same time I'm braking. I called GM this morning and setup an appointment for Wednesday. I've had gm trucks before and I've been told in the past that clunks are normal. I really hope gm doesn't do the same with this one. I will promise that if GM comes back and says the clunks are normal, im going to take the truck to the ford dealership the next day. IM TIRED OF CLUNKS!!! ITS NOT NORMAL GM!!!!!! What do u guys think is wrong with my truck?

The part where you describe "braking feels like gassing" could be your driveline slip yoke sticking, classic symptom. Also makes the clunk worse. My truck had exact symptom when new. We all know the clunk isn't normal but GM is "pushing this issue down the road"....assume it would be costly to correct. And it gets worse-I have almost 18M on mine and it clunks all the time. Add a trailer tow and get the max clunk really bad. GM has a TSB telling dealers not to attemp repair for the clunk so not a chance they will fix yours.

This clunk issue is ridiculous. I dont understand how GM can just say its normal. You would think with all the clunking problems before, they would fix all the issures with the new sierra/silverados. Im kicking myself for not researching before buying the truck. i thought for sure the clunking issues would be gone. Very dissappointed with GM. Im hoping they fix my problem on Wednesday but like i said if GM cannot fix this issues, im simply done with them. I will update everybody once GM takes a look Wednesday.

I have the clunk. Had it since new. I just ignore it. Seemed normal to me.

Drivelines with long heavy driveshafts connected to axles with lots of unsprung weight often make noise.

I don't believe that there is an actual correctable problem as some here suggest.

Not saying it was perfect, however, my '06 Tundra was 4WD as well, and didn't have the driveline clunking issue. My brother's Ram doesn't seem to have this problem either. While they can't take all the gear lash out, they can tighten tolerances of parts so that there isn't as much slop to make it so audible and noticeable.

Pull the driveshaft, or get the dealer to, and grease the slip yoke. This has been a fix for Dmax Allison equipped trucks for a long time,06 I believe. I suspect it would be the same for these trucks as well.

Service Mgr visit....

Finally got more info on the clunk....basically it's a result of hardware so don't expect a fix with tranny software. I listened to the discussion but parts mentioned were not familiar. If you get a vehicle with a slight variance in tolerances it might clunk. If it clunks it's not practical to attempt to fix it. I said what if I agree to pay? He said-not fixable as a practical matter. Some don't clunk; some moderate clunk; some like mine=super clunk! Best advice drive it as much as possible before you buy. WTF? I think a lot of us will be driving a different brand.

In other words, the driveline parts have such wide tolerances for acceptability, they have no way to know if they order parts, which end of the tolerance spectrum they will get.

And that's with GM using a one-piece driveshaft that removes one lash point compared to some other models.

Do you work for GM?

It can absolutely be corrected.

Truck owners have fixed it themselves on older model GM trucks. It's just a PITA paying out of pocket to buy parts when GM should have had this issue fixed years ago. There have been several topics in the past of people fixing this with grease and updated parts. The last answer GM had was an updated slip yoke. There were detailed pictures in the topic, do a search and see for yourself, there IS a fix and it IS a problem.

GM also had released a TSB for the driveline clunk problem that included replacement of the old part with a new nickel plated part.

It was for 07-13 NNBS trucks :

So I'm at the GM dealership waiting on my shuttle ride. So im already getting bs from the dealership. I explained my problem and told them about the engine mounts and trans mount. I told him about the 3mm shimming bulletin. The guys response was I've never seen that fix any truck before. He said the vibration is due to when they were putting the trucks together they didn't quiet align the motor and trans right. He said gm wants them to loosen all the mounts start the truck so it can set and tighten the bolts. He said this has never fixed the issues on any truck he has serviced.? on to the clunking issue. So I asked him when u drive a vehicle and accelerate hard and let go of the gas should it be smooth or clunky. He smiled and basically said its normal. He said some trucks do it more then others but it is pretty much normal for gm trucks. GREAT! They're not evan gonna try to fix the clunking basically! WTF! Well I'll go ahead and promise i will never buy another gm product. Not because of the issues with this truck but because I had a 2008 GMC Sierra with the same problems and they didn't correct it with these new trucks! If u fix the vibration and clunking on these trucks, I believe gm would have the #1 selling truck in America. I will follow up and let u guys know what gm tells me today.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I got the same BS on my 2014 and 2015 Sierras. Told it was all "normal" by dealer and GM. Go test drive or ride in another brand of truck and I guarantee what GM passes off as "normal" will not be found in those trucks (when it comes to clunking/vibrations). Dont be surprised if they give you this bulletin....I think my dealer must have given me 30 copies for each time I brought it in:

Thanks BluByU14. Good info! So i got a question for everybody. GM has a clunking issue that everybody knows about and has had these issues for the last decade. Does ford trucks have a known problem like this one. I know most people think this clunking issue is not a problem but for me a brand new truck should be smooth not clunky. If its the norm, than i dont want to drive a product like this ever again. Does anybody know of a problem like this with other manufacturers? Ford, Toyota, etc. I really love the way these GM trucks look but looks arent everything. For me a truck has to be tough, reliable, and lastly good looking. Im sure this Sierra will last a long time but i cant be confident in a product that has simple issues like clunking. Looking back on it, im the dummy. i had a 2008 sierra with similar problems and i bought a 2014 sierra. What a dumb move, i shouldve known better.

I was in the same boat as you. I had a perfect 05 Yukon Denali with 0 issues and thought that these new Sierras would be the same, if not better. Wrong I was..... I should have done additional research and homework before buying a $50,000 clunking/vibrating POS. I was lucky to have GM buy back my 2014 Sierra for the incurable vibrations it had, but my 2015 was even worse and develop this clunking from the new 8-speed transmission that was just unbearable to drive. All of those issues, again deemed normal by GM. I ended up getting into a 2015 Ram Sport with the 5.7L Hemi and ZF 8HP70 Transmission. I have 1000 miles on it now and it has never clunked or banged once. I never thought I would own anything other than a GM product, but with all of the problems I went through, my decision to change brands has finally brought closure to the hell I went through on the other 2 trucks. I am not saying that all GM trucks are crap. The majority of the members on this forum love their new Silverado/Sierra and have not had a single problem with them. I really wish I was one of these members. But as you can tell, their are a lot of members who do have legit problems, which are being "swept under the carpet" by GM.

I have been a automotive enthusiast my entire life. Owning a well performing/running vehicle is very important to me. GM maybe able to persuade some individuals that these issues are normal and some people may accept that. I tried really hard to accept it, but the "car guy" in me knew that something was just not right. I can deal with little annoying things about vehicles, such as rattles, poor lights, some rust here and there, etc, but when it comes down to the drive-train and overall performance of the truck not being right, I have major concerns.

At the end of the day, you need to be happy with whatever vehicle you drive. I hope the dealer can make things right for you and get your issues solved. If not, then it might be time to walk away and get something else. Every vehicle is going to have it's problems, but the unfixable and incurable ones deemed "normal" by GM is what is hurting the image of these trucks. Just my $.02

Just picked the truck up and the manager at the gm dealer told me that these vehicles have a obvious vibration issue but gm doesn't have a fix for it YET. Key word yet. He said atleast we documented the problem and if anything happens gm will know I tried. Lol what shitty company. I've learned my lesson today. Screw me once shame on u, screw me twice shame on me. Haha just gotta laugh and move on.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
