getting rid of the chrome.

so really...i just hate chrome...wish i didn't go for it, the current color of my truck is tungsten.... i have a bit of red accents that look great with it....im just wondering what should the chrome be transferred into... what would look good...red? black?? its just weird because i got tungsten is all...

but lets get to the point here....what do you guys recommend for the semi cheap budget area for covering the chrome up?i have some past experience with plasti dip.

only thing with that is..its not that durable ... i feel like if u rub anything against it..finger nail etc it would fade a mark and just rip off. ..i covered my chrome up on my last truck and it wasn't the greatest ..not sure if i did prep wrong..or the fact that i didn't use a sealer/gloss...i know there is rinho lining..and line-x but im pretty sure those are..$$$$$$

but please toss ideas.! even color ideas on what you think would look good?

I don't see any red except for in the Worx logo on the rims.

If it was my truck I would take the chrome mirror caps off and switch the door handles with regular black ones, color match the other chrome on the truck itself and have black side steps. If that's a chrome Z71 grille I'd switch it out with a black Z71 grille off of a '14 or '15 LT because the insert is black. I'd also swap out the bowties with color matched ones. The lastly either debadge the emblems or make them black.

As for how to do it for cheap, if you want quality then it will cost some money. The only way I can think of without knowing someone personally that will do it for cheaper is just buying the materials for cheap. I replaced the bowties with gloss black aluminum ones instead of plasti-dipping which I didn't mind paying the extra money. Also I plan on keeping what's left on my truck chrome except for the bumpers which I want to have them black chrome so they're black while keeping the chrome look.

I'm with you I hate most chrome and these trucks come with way too much for my taste. I ended up swapping out the handles and mirror covers with a color matched set, removing most of the badges and plastidipping the remaining, removing the lower chrome trim on the doors, removing the chrome steps and lastly swapping out the chrome molding on the windows with black ones.

im trying to look for caps for the handles...i cant find any color matched ones for tungsten...The mirrors im eventually going to be replacing those with tow mirrors. and the trim molding since my truck is tungsten....i might do like a plasti dip black glossier/ or red...? not sure about the bumpers tho. or grille

Did you go to the dealer? I have a tungsten and mine came with color match handles and mirror caps. Tell them to look under Texas editions.

All these guys allergic to chrome would have gone into anaphylactic shock if you had to drive a 50s car or even my old 79 El Camino 2 tone with 3 strips of chrome running the length and all the window chrome, bed rail chrome, bumper chrome, etc.

I went with the 1500 WT blackout edition just for this problem. Not quite as many frills as the higher end trucks but more than enough for what I need and best of all, virtually no chrome! lol

They should would . I like a certain amount of chrome but not too much. Im not a fan of chrome trim chrome door handles or mirrors but always loved the chrome chevy grills dating back over the generations.

I ordered my 14 Z71 with the honeycomb chrome grill because unlike many others I actually like the huge chrome face compared to the blackZ71 grill that comes with the truck. Lucky for me my salesman screwed up and promised me my truck could be ordered with the chrome grill and the Z71 badge on the face. But apparently that was not true. So when the truck arrived it had the blackZ71 grill and they were forced to order me the chrome honeycomb grill free of charge. The black grill sits in my garage boxed up (I may swap it out in time or keep it should the unexpected happen).

I think once I get my procomp stage2 6inch lift installed in about a month (about 1500 bucks shy). Along with the 20x9's 962's Moto Metal wheels on 35inch Toyo A/T II's that sit unwrapped in storage.

My truck should look pretty mean coming down the street. A big chrome smile staring at you through your review mirror.

It looked just like this one originally.

Yeah, in the early 80s, I had all the chrome strips taken off that El Camino, except the bed rail itself and had it painted solid black. Later, I took the whole thing apart and stripped every inch of it and painted it white.

Thats crazy. I love that style of El Camino. When I was asked by my parents to pick out a used car I wanted them to buy me when I turned 18years old and got my license back in 1984. I choose the 1980 El Camino. We went to look at a biege one and was about to pull the trigger on my first car but I got picky and decide to wait and look at a camaro instead. The biege color made me hesitant. A few weeks later my dad lost his job and that beige El Camino looked real nice because I had to settle for this.

Mine was just as green and even uglier with the green shag carpet. It cost 500 bucks. Its funny now.

A few weeks ago I was talking with a good friend of mine and we both wished GM would bring back the El Camino. He said " They did but now they call it an Avalanche" . HAHA
