2500 receiver hitch rating

Recommended Posts

Noticed that the conventional trailer weight rating is stuck at 13K for a standard bed. Seems kind of off seeing as how the max TW is 1500. Is there an actual hitch limitation that can be remedied by aftermarket or is it something else?

That is the max hitch rating gas or diesel for the 2500 chassis. The hitch is not the limitation, the class of truck is. The factory hitch is rated for the highest towing capacity GM offers of 19,600lbs on a 3500hd crew cab long box 4x4.

The hitch is a different part number for the long vs short and you're right it is shared between both trucks. All SRW 2500 HDs have a 13K limit...3500 limits are either 13, 16.5 or 19.6K depending on cab, wheel config and bed length. If it's anything like the 1500s the hitch "limits" are on a sticker under the receiver. I'm just curious more than anything else.

Edit: Hitch has a sticker for 1500 TW and 13K total weight.
