Anyone used CAMVAP for truck buy back?

I have a 2014 Sierra that started with a slight vibration between 65-75kph that after 3 dealer services, 3 new tires and a new drive shaft, now has a much worse vibration between 60-80kph and a faint vibration at nearly all speeds now. It's going in for it's 4th service at a different dealer tomorrow, needless to say I'm not expecting it to get fixed.

So I'm looking at my options, I think the only thing that would make me happy is a straight trade to an identical 2015 without a dime out of my pocket and even reimburse for re-title and license fees.

Which brings me to CAMVAP (http://www.camvap.ca/faq/), Canada's version of the lemon laws in the US. It seems to cover about the same bases and force a arbitrated buy back on the car manufacturer, but have any Canadian forum users gone through the process and can shed some light on it? I just want to be prepared and know my options so I can more effectively push the dealer/GM for a trade.

I only consider a trade because I don't want to be out any more money than absolutely necessary. If I could get every dime back I'd go straight over to a Ford F150 and never touch a GM vehicle again and bad mouth them for the rest of my life over this.

Any input would help put me at ease, thanks.

I had a family member that went through it in Alberta within the last 2 years. It ended up being a waste of time. The manufacturer (GM) fought the decision and they ended up giving up and trading the vehicle in on a ford. As much as the CAMVAP process said it's final and there is limited recourse once the decision is made, that's BS. If the manufacturer doesn't want to make right, they'll do whatever it takes to weasel out of it.

I did it...a lowly female ;) , with my 2008 GMC Canyon....had over 350 hours of service in the first year I owned it. Had a complete service record printed off which clearly stated they could not fix the problem. Had an arbitrator all lined up and GM Called and settled using the CAMVAP formula. I bought two GM's after that and have not had an issue. The original dealership was terrible but I changed dealers and have not looked back and have felt completely looked after now. It was not that big of an issue and I followed all the steps.

While I can't advise you on that specific process, I'd suggest finding a reputable tire shop or speed shop with an RF balancer. Pay out of pocket for them to balance them, asking them to hit under 15lbs of force on warmed up tires, and see what they come up with. Think of it like a second opinion.

This will help prove if the problem is the vehicle, or the dealership. If its the dealership, the out of pocket fix will be cheap compared to going through the process. If it is the vehicle/tires, then that's one more piece of data to use against them in the process.

Or have your dealer actually use the NVH process and get the equipment in place that will tell them where the vibration is coming from. GM has a very specific trouble shooting process in place for these trucks and it works as long as the dealer uses it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, much appreciated.

I think they got it about 95% fixed this last time with the new gears in the rear diff, although I hate to call it good enough if it's not perfect, I'm going to give it a 2-3000km's to decide if i'm happy with it for good. Here's my long winded update post from other threads:

Well there is hope boys! Just got my 14 Sierra Crew SLT back yesterday and I'm tentatively calling it fixed (95% sure, have to drive it more to be sure).

It had a vibration only in the steering from 65-75kph originally. First service they replaced 2 tires and returned it with a worse vibe. 2nd service they replaced another tire and returned it slightly improved but not as good as it was originally. 3rd service they replaced the drive shaft, returned it with a dramatically worse vibration 60-80kph, that could be felt in the whole truck and a slight vibe at nearly all speeds.

So then I went in and ranted at the service manager for 20 minutes about a week after 3rd visit. He booked it in for the next day, then the service level improved quite a bit. Had a loaner waiting for me.

They had it for 11 days (due to waiting for parts) and replaced the rear diff gear case, crown and pinion gears and bearings. I believe they also rebalanced the drive shaft or possibly put the old original one back on. Boom, they got it, after I had lost all faith in them they turned around and redeemed themselves. I don't know if I'll ever think highly of GM again though, that's kind of ruined for me.

Also had them apply the headlight upgrade while it was in, it's a noticeable improvement I'd say.

So now after 2 months of dicking around with that I think I'm a happy camper, fingers crossed. Truck has 3800km on it now, was built and purchased in Sept/14.

Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.
    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
