5.3 upgrades

I've heard I'd be better off swapping to a 6.0 or 6.2 if I wanted to perform better but what's the best way to wake up a tired out 5.3

 

I'm going to hold off for a few months then go with a 6.0 swap because my motor is up around 185,000 miles right now

What year is the truck you are wanting to upgrade?

There are a few different options in the 6.0L engine. You have the LQ4 from the 2500 trucks, the LQ9 Vortec HO (max), and then there's the more powerful L76 Vortec Max with AFM.

 

Either way, you may need to upgrade your transmission when adding a 6L engine. If I were upgrading, I would do both to be sure everything functioned properly and not have to worry about breaking in the future.

 

I know one of the mod's, specifically Chris has upgraded his truck to the LQ9 in his truck a while back and he seems to love the power. I am sure he can give you specifics on what you need for the upgrade.

Buy the lq9,search for a junk yard one, keep running the 5.3 till it blows up all the while tearing apart the 6.0 and upgrading all the internals to include bottom end to suit a turbo...... when ready, install then enjoy! You're welcome in advance!☺

I'm going to stay naturally aspirated but the 5.3 is in a 2000 and it's making a top end knock at low rpms when in gear
