CarPlay and Android Auto coming to 2016 GM Vehicles

I dunno... from the few reviews I've seen on YouTube about the Apple CarPlay... it's not that great. Forces you to use Siri for almost everything. I don't know if the Google Android version is better but at this point, I don't think I'm missing anything.

I think the screwing was because GM advertised the 2014 trucks having the text to voice feature but in reality it didn't come thru. It was added to the 2015 trucks via hardware and CANBUS changes that were not backwards compatible with the 2014 trucks.

I agree with TJay74's post about GM advertising on the 2014 trucks. Even the dealership I bought it at "thought" it had the "text to voice" feature on the truck I bought until I learned on this forum that mine didn't have it. GM seems to be lagging behind other manufactures in the technology department.

The technology of CarPlay and Android auto may not be perfected yet but I do believe that it is the future of vehicle infotainment.

Currently, each manufacturer makes their own and they all have come up short. I think we should leave it to the software engineers to make great software and mechanical engineers to make cars.

Yep I agree.

I also agree with the point that we're not missing much yet. Give them a few years to work out the kinks and upgrade these systems. Hopefully in 7-10 years when I'm looking to trade up to a new truck, they'll have the equivalent of an iPad in the dashboard by then!

What I am really looking forward to is the ability to be able to mirror my phone. I suspect they will find a way to do that through CarPlay and a jailbreak of some sorts. I know somewhere here theres a company that charges a lot of money to do that but I would rather have it included and not risk it not working with a software update

I have a '15 and can't even use text to voice because the system is not compatible with iPhone 6.

Edit: Actually it does, figured it out today.

""""us with 2014's got screwed over with the text to voice features in the 2015's as well. """

No one got "screwed" bro... the whole idea is for GM to come out with something new each year... so you keep on wanting a new truck..

Yeah depending on the production date of your truck you might have got screwed. If you look at the fine print the head units with texting came out later the production of MY2014. So yes I did get screwed and many others. My wife's Terrain was similar thing they advertised it in MY2012 but only built later in the year got Intellink.

If you want all voice control, including text-to-voice and voice-to-text - just buy a Windows Phone. Works through Bluetooth, automatically detects when connected with Bluetooth so you don't even have to do anything extra, etc. All without having to touch the phone.

Works flawlessly on my 2014 Sierra - no matter what source I am listening to on the radio. Pauses every music option (including Pandora) except AM/FM radio.

Most likely not, us with 2014's got screwed over with the text to voice features in the 2015's as well. Car play and android auto dont excite me much. I had this feature on my pioneer NEX radio and its novelty wore off really quick.

You have a Pioneer NEX in your 2014? What harness did you use?
