scratched tailgate cap

I am getting line x sprayed in on tuesday and i've had to move some stuff this weekend. I noticed that my tailgate cap got all scratched up. Is there any way to replace these or have line x just sprayed over it?

I looked at a few threads but couldnt find a definitive answer. Any help would be appreciated.

I say leave it, that's what those plastic pieces are there for is to protect any paint and so they get scratched instead of paint. It's a truck so expect some scratches on the inside of the bed or the plastic pieces on the top edge of the tailgate and bed rails. I'm a lot more careful with things around the body of the truck than I would be with my old trucks, but the inside of the bed and the plastic pieces I don't care about since they're going to get scratched and banged up if you actually use a truck as a truck.

thanks, i know the bed is gonna get banged up a bit, i just got it though so its kinda hard to accept. I found out its not easy to line x because there are giant holes under the cap, i guess ill either keep it or just put an OEM one in its place. I just couldnt find one for sale on the net

I felt that way about mine after I got a few scratches on it but, I guess at the end of the day it's honest wear not neglect so I am okay with it.

Ya, just like the fact that you can't keep the underside of the truck squeaky clean like you'd want on a classic car or hot rod. For the first time this truck should be my first one where the engine bay stays basically clean, just gets pollen and a little dust in there. It didn't matter how many times I pressure washed the engine bay of my 98 because I would always put it in mud. Also even though I know the wheel wells won't stay clean I usually rinse them off real good when I wash it, but that's just to keep the dirt from building up bad on them. That's a reason why I love driving in the rain, it helps clean the wheel wells if not anything else.

I keep looking for bed rail caps and matching tailgate cap in black diamond plate, but a full set isn't available yet. I hate these plastic caps. Using a truck for work/hauling doesn't mean it has to look bad. Or at least it shouldn't, in my opinion.

this sits on top of the oem plastic cap right? im worried my tonneau cover wont play nice with it. I think im just gonna let it be

Just bought my 2014 Silverado about 2mnts ago. My top scratched up! Then again I do remodeling. Don't mind but looking to replace later on when work calms down

Lol, mine had wicked swirl marks the night I picked it up! I didn't even tell the dealer because I'd rather fix it myself before I let the dealers pro's touch it again. I've since added a few scratches

Yeah I scratched mine up pretty good right off the bat using ramps for loading dirtbikes and 4wheelers....I was kind of disappointed at first but realized I have a truck for those exact things we love to do so I got over it .....for now lol

Looking good or bad is all in the eye of the beholder.

I try not to sweat the small stuff. There are guys that maintain their vehicles to levels that are amazing. It makes them feel good. I can appreciate their dedication and enthusiasm. I'm not that guy. I actually feel better about my trucks at about 60-80,000 miles when the scuffs and scratches have accumulated to the point that I don't worry about my truck much anymore. Lower stress, better living. I bought my truck to use as a hunting vehicle.
