Infotainment/HU replacement and then some...

I've got a 2015 2500HD WT. Yes, the one with a 4.2" non-touchscreen, on a $40,000 truck! But I digress...

On to my questions:

I've got a quality single-din HU from a previous vehicle that I'd love to install in the 2500. As a side note, I have speakers and an amp that will be accompanying the HU.

The only feature within the infotainment system that I do not want to lose is the back-up camera.

That being said, my plan is to buy a GM rear-view mirror, one that has a built-in back-up camera. For this, I would tap the existing video feed from the stock rear-view unit and display it on the new mirror.

As for the HU, I would obviously just use a GM wiring harness (once one becomes available) and badda-bing, no more shit screen and awful audio.

Am I missing anything? Any suggestions or advice? Heeds of warning or name calling?

Why not an OEM route?

That way you get the 8 inch touch radio, nav (whether you use it or not) and keep the backup camera.

Not sure how aftermarket head units play with these trucks as the MyLink system as everything has some sort of module in the whole system and everything talks to eachother.

OEM is not out of the question, and I have considered it as an option. However, I'm a bit of an audiophile and the OEM units cannot compare to the capabilities of my other HU, namely the preamps and tuning.

*edit* Not to mention the price tag that would be associated with OEM.

Going from the 4.3 to the 8" may not work, there is a lot more then changing the face and headunit to do, the electronics in the 8" cars is more complex then you in the 4.3 and there are 2, 4.3 electronics out there so you need to know wich one is in the car.
