Im hoping you guys can help me figure out what I'm going to need to do a swap from 3.08 to 3.42.

An itemized list would be awesome. Cost would be icing on the cake...

Thanks in advance!

I am trying to be nice, if you have to ask the job is probably beyond your abilities.

Ring and pinion

new ring gear bolts

new pinion bearings pinion nut and crush washer probably smarter to buy the master install kit so you get the shims.

About 500 bucks worth of tools you will never use again.

Find a trans & drive line shop and pay them.

Sorry,

A gear shop is doing it but the dealer is helping by buying the parts since I bought the truck thinking it was 3.42. So to get a a survey they are paying for large portion of parts needed.

Will need the PCM programmed for the 3.42

I had read where the dealer can not change this for the 2014-15 trucks.....not sure if this is true or not

the price depends on where you buy it from and what brand you go with. honestly im not even sure if there are any aftermarket gears for our trucks yet. I have only rebuilt a few rearends and if you just replace the ring and gear then you might be able to use the same shims that come from the factory as your backlash should be good. however since your taking to a shop then they will be able to make sure it is in within spec.

also you will not need a new carrier / third chunk. the ring gear just unbolts off of the carrier and you bolt your new ring gear on. when you replace the carrier then you are for sure going to have to use different shims to get the backlash set just right.

3.08 to 3.42 is not worth it... 3.73 would be a better pick

The dealerships can't make this conversion, you have to go to an aftermarket customization shop...trust me, I know!
