Buying a Box, any suggestions???

I've never had to purchase a bed box before. I like the polished diamond boxes but where is a decent place to buy?

I've seen some that look like crap after only 6 months. I used to have a cheap rubbermaid one that a friend gave me for helping him out with his car. It looked pretty good with the rounded corners matching the contours of the truck pretty well. Was pretty flimsy though, 2" angle iron fixed it.

But now, it's time to go after one. I'm in Atlanta if it helps.

TIA,

I got a UWS Gullwing for my truck.  It has held up very well and I see many UWSs running around this area (Jacksonville Fl.) I got mine from Truck Options.  UWS website

I got mine at Home Depot.  It was $200 for the deep over the rail model.  It has buttons on the sides for easy opening without having to get in the bed and locks easily.  I am very happy with it.  I have had it for a year now and it looks as good now as when I bought it.

Wal-Mart sells a good one. I can't remember the brand off the top on my head. If you know some one that works there they can get it to you for a discount. The problem with diamond plate boxes is you have to polish them and that is a pain.

Try Northern Tool and Hydraulics if you have one near.  I didn't get mine there (already had it when I bought it) but I know of some people that have bought them there and I know they are pretty darn cheap and seem to hold up well. :flag:

I have the Husky box from Home Depot. Mine was also $200 but has lock handles just inside the bed on either side so you don't have to get in the bed to open. Had it over a year and still looks great. Never have had to polish any diamond plate box I've had. They've all been aluminum if that matters.

WOW! lots of great suggestions. Never knew they could go from quite reasonable to (cough) pricy.    I guess everybody needs to be proud of something.

I do have a northern shop not far away, last time I was in there they had 1 style.  :flag: Not a very nice neighborhood.

Is there any I should probably steer clear of? Obviously dependent on price.

Thanks again.

You can tell alot by looking at the thickness of the metal and see if the lid flexes or is fairly rigid.  It also depeds on what your intended use is on how tough you need the box to be.  I was in our local Tractor Supply Co. Store the other day and saw a really cool aluminum box done in Mossy Oak.  It would look really good on some color trucks.  I don't remember the brand though. :flag:

Anybody have experience with these guys?

Truck Vault

I'm looking for a small lockable box that I can store gear and stuff in. I don't want a full size, and I'd rather not loose too much bed space.  So I'm thinking of one of these:

I bought a Better Built from Lowes. I don't carry much so I went with a low prolife box. I am very happy with it. It was around $200. I also have a Better Built on my 92 S-10. It has been on that truck for 8 years, and it still shines.
