Tailgate won't open, not handle clips

I've seen all the Youtube videos on how to replace the rod clips on your tailgate handle if you can't get your tailgate open on your Silverado or Sierra, but they don't help me. The clips on both those rods are still attached on the handle on my 08 Sierra Denali. However, although the rod on the passenger side is still attached on the handle, it is hanging loose from there toward the end where the tailgate meets the bedside. I've searched through dozens of pages on here (couldn't find a 'search' button) and can't find anything that shows how to get in there and fix it. Anyone have any idea of how to get in there or at least get the tailgate down. I have no bodyshops in my small town so I need help asap!

Hmmm...any chance you can unclip the pass. rod from the handle and use it as a reach tool to try and strike that latch open while you pull the handle to hit the other rod?

Eh...now that I think about that, might be tight unless you remove the handle and un clip the other rod from the handle. Three bolts on tailgate panel.

Just a preliminary. It's not in "locked" position, is it?

If the tailgate is stuck closed. Use a sawzall and cut off the sticker that is attached to the right and left side of the tailgate. Then purchase two new strikers they screw in and repaid the handle. Problem solved.

Not a chance with my big hands. I've tried 'fishing' the rod around, but it's just a shot in the dark. Can't feel anything, much less 'hook' it.

The left side will click open fine. So if cut thru thru the stiker on the right and then purchase a new one and hook it back up I should be good to go?
