Rotors glazing - 18000kms/11000miles

Hey everyone. Has anyone else experienced their rotors glazing over with so few miles?

Even stranger, the two rotors I speak of are both on the passenger side.

I wonder if warranty will cover this? It definitely seems abnormal to me and not just wear and tear.

I'm at 2yrs/21K miles and my front passenger brake squeaks horribly in standard stop and go traffic. I haven't had time to pull the wheel off and look at it more closely though.

Like you mention, it seems abnormally early for new brakes to display this behavior, but my braking power seems about the same.

I feel like mine have degraded a little bit. I sent off my email to the service dept. Will have them take a look while I get my oil change done.

Looks like rust from the picture. Possibly that side of the truck is exposes to the dryer outlet or sprinklers?

I'll get you a better photo. Definitely not rust.

Drop six

I'm still thinking it looks like the results of rust that has been burnished off by the pads. The freckling and blue/brown colors fit with rust that has been removed. Has your truck sat for a while?

Looks like rust to me. Interested to see what the dealer says about it. Weird it's only on the 1 side. Truck seems to get different weather on that side for some reason. Maybe it sat next to sprinklers on the lot or something before you bought it. Wonder if you scuff them up a bit it would take care of it.

It could have sat at the dealer for quiet a while. Look at the manufacture date vs you purchase date. If you've had it for many months, it could have happened if you let it sit for an extended time with moisture/shade on one side.

Thank you both for following the thread. I've taken up close pictures I am going to upload now. The truck was not like this when I got it in October. I only noticed it this spring. It's driven daily or at least every second day.

*Also manufacture date was July or August 2014 and I picked it up in October.

Still looks like rust to me. Look at the part of the rotor closer to the hub, shows the same rust spots....except doesn't have the pad clamping on it.

Being only on one side of the truck makes me believe it was caused by excessive moisture on that side (rain, no direct sunshine, etc....) for an extended amount of time.

Even though it's driven daily or every second day? I live in the sticks too so every time I go somewhere it's at least an 18 mile trip.

I bet that problem came from the lot you bought it from. My truck sits weeks at a time, and looks nothing like that. I would suspect a defect if all 4 were like that, but with it being only 1 side, looks like something occurred on that side that didn't occur on the other side.

Not the same comparison I know, but my house has a similar situation. My front deck doesn't see full sunlight, and grows mold/algae that has to be power washed every year. My back deck see full sun, 3 kids, 2 dogs, BBQ grill and who knows what else....and it always looks brand new.

Just out of curiosity, does the inside of those rotors look the same as the outside?
