Transfer Case Skid Plate Bolt Size

Does anyone know the bolt size used for the Z71 transfer case skid plate?

I have a plate on order and plan to tap the frame for bolts as I can't locate a source for the self tapping factory bolts. I though it would be nice to know the actual size rather than just crawl under with a tap assortment.

Any GM dealer can get them for you, and they're all over eBay. They're not the cheapest bolt, but they're sure a lot easier than tapping the hole yourself.

OK, can you point me to an Ebay auction or tell me the size self tapping bolt that I need to buy?

It looks to be GM part number 11518341.

Here's the lowest price currently on eBay.

My dealer sales them for $5.50 or so.

Thanks for the info. I'll give my dealer a call to see if they have them.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's only two. There are a couple of older threads around here on the topic though. I suggest you do a search to confirm, or your dealer should be able to confirm.

FWIW, my experience with dealerships is that they all have different prices on parts. My GMC dealership is always MSRP on parts. The Chevy dealer across the street from them always has parts highly discounted. MSRP is ~$9, but you should be able to get for ~$6.

I crawled under the truck last night and it looks like there are 4 likely holes in the cross member in front of the transfer case. It looks like the skid plate is only supported from that front cross member, there are no holes off to the side or behind the transfer case to attach the plate to. I found pics of the previous generation 1500 skid plate and it looks it has the same 4 bolt pattern on that cross member and the plate hangs from those bolts.

M10X1.5X25 is the bolt spec. Should just thread right in no need to tap or drill.

This is not correct. The holes are not threaded unless something has been installed there previously. There's another older thread talking to this exact issue. Nearly all of the frame bolts are self tapping. I had my front shield off a few weeks ago and those bolts are also self-tapping. Do a google search of the part number and you can see the thread design.

Called my local dealer this morning. No bolts in stock and none at the other area dealers.

Warehouse had 74 so I ordered 4 and they will arrive n their morning shipment tomorrow.

Of course I did not ask price, knowing this dealer it will be very close to retail, but at least

I will have them when the shield gets delivered on Friday.
