2010 Silverado grinding with tire rotation when braking

Grinding sound only when enough pressure to start stopping truck. Not when light pressure in traffic. Only </=25mph.

Sounds appears to be from rear tires. Doesn't do it when start out immediately (not first few stops), usually takes few minutes down road. Appears to be coming from drivers rear. Had new tires put on about 500 miles ago. Rock? Need brake shoes on rear? Abs kicking early?

Also, seems to be rythmic with tire rotation, not constant grind.

Slight pulse, but nothing major.

I had read where could be ABS sensor dirty. I've got to replace the front passenger boot b/c slinging grease. Cleaned it all last night, but didn't get down to speed sensor. Didn't seem to make any noise this morning.

Checked brakes myself, thought ok. Took to place, they agreed with brakes....maybe 1mm thinner than new set (recently bought truck used). They couldn't pin point noise. Had 3 guys on it all day. I trust these guys and their work. Sound still there, zero change. Has 70k miles.

So noise quit for few days. Now it's back. Doesn't seem as bad. Slack in rear axle i good. Drive shaft/trans case zero slack. Nothing loose I can find. Crawled all under truck.

Check the emergency brake pads?

They are known to separate.

What kind of shape are the wheel bearings in? Sometimes a bad wheel bearing can sound like a brake issue. Have those checked and you may find the problem.

All viable possibilities, but my money is on the dust shield with it coming and going like that. Even the small ones on the caliper itself could be loose.

Drum brakes so no park pad separate from regular brake pad. Should have mentioned that.

There was some slack but nothing I'd consider abnormal. Will investigate that further.

Will double check covers.

Found park brake cable under drivers side extremely tight. Based on how dirty.....it's been tight 1"+ recently. Loosened 3/4". Park brake still works. Rode around stopping repetitively. Didn't hear anything. Will really know after 50+ miles round trip to work tomorrow.
