driver mirror acting funny

To start off this thread I would like to mention that my bumper-to-bumper warranty expired about 1500 miles ago which was about 3 weeks ago, give or take. So GM if you are reading this then, bravo, job well done.

About a week or so ago I was about to go to work and I hit the lock button twice and held the remote start button down to get my truck running to cool off since it's about 100 degrees in Houston with about 80% humidity. Truck starts no problem let it run for 5 or so minutes and I walk outside to get in my truck. I press the unlock button and almost immediately open my drivers door, as I am opening the door I hear a motor operating around me but at the time I really didn't think much of it. So I get in my truck and close the door and get prepared to drive. I exit my driveway and happen to look in my drivers side view mirror and see that the mirror is angled all the way down and to the left. I though this was weird and hit my preset memory 1 button to make it go back to where I had it but it did not move. I had to use the window controls to make the mirror go back to where I had it. Once I put the mirror back to where I could see I then set the preset button 1 to remember.

So since that day when I unlock my truck the mirror will almost always go to some random position. The mirror might move down 1/2" or as far down as it can go and to the left. Or the might go up to as far up as it can go and to the right so all I see is my drivers window / a-pillar.

My question is where is the memory for the mirror positions stored at i.e. in the mirror itself, in the switch in the door or the bcm? If I am not mistaken if you replace the mirror(s) on these trucks you have to "relearn" the mirror positions correct?

If there is someone out there that replaced their OEM mirrors with OEM power fold mirrors, once your install was complete did you have to relearn the mirror position OR when holding down the preset button you desired as your seat position did it automatically go there?

Positions are stored in the memory seat module. No relearn required per GM Service info. Worst case, position mirrors and set.

When I say "relearn" I meant holding the set button down along the desired number (my case #1). Basically when I enter the truck the mirror glass has moved to where it is not set the way I left it (I use the same key fob everyday). I then hold down the #1 button to make it go back to where it is suppose to be however it does not move. It is as if I saved the mirror position like that as driver #1. I then have to use the arrow buttons to make the mirror go back to where I can see again and I proceed to save it as driver position #1; again.

Then I repeat the process all over again once it happens again. Just to be clear it does not happen every time I get in the truck. I think I have narrowed it down to when I remote start the truck but I can not confirm that at this time.

Not sure if any of this will help but a couple things you could try/ double check.

1. You always mention using button 1. But maybe you have keyfob #2 and that button has a wierd preset saved? It doesn't sound like that is the case as you say it goes to a different spot each time. If the buttons on the door each have a different preset saved, then I believe that the corresponding key fob will engage that preset when used to unlock the doors.

2. Try turning off the automatic curb assist feature if you have it and still have it on. It doesn't sound like that is the issue either but worth a try?

It sounds more like something is faulty but maybe one of these is the issue.

Also you shouldn't hold down the preset buttons. Just a quick press and things should return to the preset positions. Not sure if you actually meant hold down or just phrased it that way. And to save a position, you hold down the preset until it beeps and then press the set button. Not like the older ones where you just held the button down for a few seconds. Once again, not sure if that is what you mean to say or not but could also be an issue as it is not saving the new position.

Hopefully this helps.

I don't have keyfob 2 because my wife uses that key fob and has her settings set to #2. Albeit that I have not had her use her key fob and check her preset seat / mirror settings.

I have always had the curb assist off because I did not like it.

As far as holding down the preset button; if I were to just press the #1 button it will not go back to whatever preset the button is set for. I have to hold it down for it to go back (including seat position and passenger side mirror). it has been like that since day one so I figured it was suppose to be like that. For my sake I hope so because I am out of bumper-to-bumper warranty.

When I set the presets I hold the desired number and the "set" button down at the same time until I hear the beep at which point I release both buttons.

Since I have made this post it has only done it maybe 2-3 times since this post. I have tried remote start and non-remote start and the mirror has not been doing as described above. I really am not sure what could have been / is causing this.
