NFAB bumper install

Here is some pics of my install although I missed taking pics of some of the steps. But I will write it out:

 

1: open hood and remove plastic shroud over grill. It has about 20 push tabs that I use a plastic prybar set from autozone to remove.

 

2: on a GMC you have to unscrew the front 2 screws from the plastic fender protectors on each side. Then pop each side out partially by pulling on them.

 

3. Under the truck if you look up at the bumper there are 6 plastic tabs that hold in the plastic piece between the grill and the bumper. Push up on the tabs releasing them. Then you can pull of the piece. See pic 1 of it removed

 

4: once that is pulled off, there are 4 bolts on top and 4 bolts at the bottom in front that hold the grill on. Unscrew them. You take the grill off by pulling up then out on the 2 large tabs at top.

 

5: if I remember there are 6 large bolts that hold the bumper on. Then 2 bolts on each side that hold a bar that goes from the bumper to the frame. See pic 2 for what that bar looks like. I removed the side bar bolts first, then looked down at the bumper from the front and unbolted any large bolts visible, then got underneath to take the rest off. It was super easy. And the bumper itself maybe weighs 50 pounds so you can lift it off on your own. I actually did the whole install myself until the new bumper went on I needed a helper to hold one side up.

 

6: remove the frame ends. 3 bolts on each side hold the frame end caps on. See pic 3. Then remove the side bolts that hold the tow hooks on. After that you can re-install the grill, then plastic bumper shroud that went between the grill and bumper, then the side fender protectors, then the plastic shroud over the grill.

 

7. Install new bumper. Super easy. Just re-use the six bolts to bolt it on in the same place as the just removed end cap. Done. See pic 4.

I then masked off and spray painted the aluminum nfab skid plate with rustoleum flat black:

 

Next I will post how I made side guards on each side to protect the exposed frame and body mounts.

Ok so at home depot the sell clear flexible Lexan sheets. I bought one big enough to use to make the 2 side shields. I then bought truck spray-in bedliner spray can that you can get from there or at an auto store because its flexible after drying. This is the 2 side pieces after I sprayed the spray liner on them:

 

 

I used cardboard that I cut to fit the shape of the pieces then a dremel to cut them out of the Lexan.

 

To mount them all I did was drill 3 holes into each piece and zip tied them to the body wherever I could find a hole. The benefit of these is they protect from random debris, they help stop airflow turbulence and improve the looks. Also the main air intake on the passenger side is exposed and since I use my truck in the sand alot I didnt want a giant gust of sand getting sucked up in there.

Hey which NFAB bumper is this? Im on Nfabs website and im not seeing any bumpers that fit the GMC models. Do the chevy silverados and GMC sierras have the same bumper fitment?
