Help with a riddle?

I need help with a riddle. My wife got one of those emails that says if you forward it to so many people would get the anwer, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I told her it wouldn't work and she said she knew it wouldn't, but tried anyway because we want to know the answer. So since it didn't I told her I would try to get the answer from you guys. I figure one person on here has to know the answer or where I can find it.

Here it is.....

What is greater than God, More evil

than the devil, The poor have it, The rich need it,

And if you eat it, you'll die?

I got one that is kinda old, that you have all probably heard,

There is a Goat, head of lettuce, and a wolf that are trying to cross the river. The problem is, they have to cross the river by boat, there is a driver on the boat, and he can only take one at a time. You can't leave the wolf and the goat alone because the wolf will eat the goat, the lettuce and the goat can't be alone either....

I thought the sphinx riddle was:

What walks on 4 legs then 2, then three.....

I know it is the same thing, but I can't really understand how the time issue is used ???

First, take the goat over.

Second, take the wolf over...BUT, Take the goat back with you.

Third, take the lettuce.

Finally, take the goat.

Great riddles..but what is the answer to this one? I also got this one in an e-mail but I didn't have enough people on my e-mail list to get the answer. I think you had to send it to 10 people. I was thinking LOVE was the answer but it doesn't kill you if you eat it. So....hmmmm I'm stuck..
