Front end face lift

Recommended Posts

This weekend I finally got time to get all my new parts installed on the front of my 15. I'm still waiting to install the painted bowtie insert. It was late and the clear coat wasn't fully cured yet (I like to wait a week on front end parts. I will hopefully get that done next weekend.

Thoughts?

I have to say that I am not a fan of chevy due to the ugly front end (my opinion).......but this face lift you have done is BAD ASS!!!

Call Chevrolet and tell them they need you. :driving:

LOL...Thanks. I need to get the time to install the insert to finish it off. I will post some more pictures when I get the wheels on.

I made the deposit today on my new tonneau cover :) Should be here in the next 6 weeks!

I have had a couple PMs asking the same questions. I will just post here publicly so anyone else knows before they ask :)

The truck started as a LT with the all chrome grille and non projector headlights. I bought a set of LTZ headlights and took the chrome surrounds off to paint them. I then bought 3 other grilles because I can never make up my damn mind. I bought: chrome/black grille, Sport package grille painted black, and then the high country grille.

I pulled the black painted surround off the sport grille and painted it Tungsten. then replaced the chrome surround from the high country with the Tungsten surround. So to date I have 4 grilles laying around. That is why I posted 2 for sale and I have one left as a just in case grille.....Yes, I'm OCD! In the midst of all this I bought 2 AMI billet full replacement bowties...those are for sale now as well.

The chrome headlight trim can easily be painted as long as you use the right products and prep is key. I have painted several high end cars and done several full restorations so please don't try this unless you have prior experience or don't mind screwing up good parts.

Here is a simple run down. This does require the use of a quality paint gun, booth, and respirator.

-Remove all old adhesive from bezels. I use 3M adhesive remover in the metal can not the spray bomb.

-Clean area with 3M Adhesion Promoter Part No. 06396

-Apply new 3M Acrylic pressure tape Part No. 06386 (This is not the cheap crap on the shelf at Autozone)

-Clean part with solvent wax and grease remover then water borne wax and grease remover (why both? because again I'm OCD)

-Scuff parts with Red Scotch Brite. I used 3 full sheets per bezel.

-Scuff parts again with Scotch Brite

-Scuff parts again with Scotch Brite (See a pattern here...MAKE SURE THEY ARE SCUFFED WELL)

-Final sand with a quality 320 paper

-Clean part with solvent wax and grease remover then water borne wax and grease remover (why both? because again I'm OCD)

-Tack rag it off

-Shoot 2 wet coats of SPI epoxy un-reduced and let sit for 72 hours. (preferably in the sun)

-Sand parts with 600 or a gray Scotch brite pad works

-Wax and grease remover again...twice

-Tack rag it off

-Shoot base color to full coverage

-Shoot a minimum of 3 coats of a very high quality high solids urethane clear coat

Let parts cure and install.....Smile at your hard work!

My flash times are insane compared to what a collision painter would use but I use totally different products. I have never ever had a shrink back issue, out gas issue, or adhesion issue. It is all in what you use that determines those flash times.

Looks awesome! This is what I am planning on doing, but will have to take it to a professional since I'll F it up for sure. Did you consider color matching the bumper? I saw this truck on Instagram and it looks awesome

Too many out there with painted bumpers and I wanted something different.

Looks great. I am doing something similar because I also wants to keep my bumper chrome. I thin I am going to do all my chrome except door handles, bumper, and rails.

I had my chrome pieces around the headlights painted, and installed a black grill surround on my hc (bumpers were already black) wish I installed some sort of chip gaurd, or clear bra, as the paint has chipped already.
