Performance enhancements

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of going with a tune by Kory Willis and the autocal to load the tunes. I'm not going to do a full delete yet. I'm also thinking of the CTS2 for monitoring.

In time I may do the full delete.

Curious to what the forum thinks? Please share your thoughts.

TIA,

MIke

Roll with it. Kind of pointless to tune and not delete unless you need to for emissions testing though, it will just be harder on the emission equip. I am going to do the same if mine ever gives me any issues. If not I am going to run it like it is till the warranty is out. If you do tune it get a lift pump.

Totally agree with you as to being pointless. I thought I could do this in phases, but maybe not. No emissions in Oklahoma.

BS on it being pointless, it is night and day difference, serious big power even with emissions, having said that if I am going to tune you can bet your ass I will do deletes to go with it, the damn emissions kill the LML!

Feel free to go in steps, Kory will tell you he has tons of guys who have done just this.

Having said all this just delete the damn thing and never look back, if you run big tunes you must have a lift pump!

I would fully delete it... I did a 5 inch turbo back flo pro, mbrp downpipe since the stock downpipe is pretty restrictive, fass 150 and motor ops tunes... Did it with 10k miles on the truck and would do it to a brand new LML in a second.

A good tune makes the truck 10x more enjoyable to drive.

Thanks for your input, exactly what I needed as I have zero experience with diesels performance enhancements.

So far I'm looking at doing the tune (Kory), cts2, Flo pro 5" exhaust (No muffler), synister egr delete, Faas150 and Downpipe. Total cost is over $2600, hence the reason I wanted to do it in steps.

Guess I should first start with contacting Kory and going from there.

I see you left off a cold air intake, do you enjoy the added filtration of the stock filter or enjoying that it out flows anything the turbo can injest, maybe it is not wasting $350 for no reason.

I am just kidding I just don't get some guys adding cold air intakes thinking they will gain anything.

Your mods are perfect and Kory will tell you your order of mods is spot on.

Funny you mention the Cold air intake, I was just thinking that I forgot to ask if it was worth adding one. From your post above, I'll pass.

Maybe pointless was a bad use of words. Yes, there is definitely a benefit to tune the vehicle. What I was referring to is that the warranty is gone when you do it so you might as well and go all out. Unless money or emissions testing is in the way there is no point to only go half way.

Fair enough, it's more the $$ and I will eventually go all out. Still haven't contacted Kory, could someone provide reliable contact information.

Go to ppeituning.com or duramax forum; he is a member there. They are located in Lake Charles louisiana. Lot of guys running around with their stickers on their trucks down this way. Better yet make a weekend trip to the L'auburge Casino and drop the tuck off, sure everything will work out great

Contacted PPEI (not Kory), Justin.

Initially I am going to go with the 5 tunes by Kory and a flow pro 5" exhaust (no muffler), EGR will be shut off in the efi live software and will only activate on WOT runs (don't plan on many of those).

With the above I can get rid of the "Piss tank"

In the future I may do the EGR delete and a cts2, but no hurry.

Mike,

I gotta tell you, I love the way my truck drives and feels with the BANKS Cold Air and tune. If your ever in the Chicagoland area, I'd let you take my truck for a spin. ( I'm not associated with them at all besides being a customer ). Still 100% emission's legal, ( not that you have to worry about it) and great mileage. Just yesterday on a 100 mile 1 way trip, I got over 21mpg cruising at 74mph !!

I thought about the full delete, but honestly don't want the worries.

Just my 2 cents..

Andy,

Thanks for sharing your experience with Banks and the offer to take yours for a spin.

That being said, after extensive research I think I'll be happy. Unlike you, I worry about the emissions crapping out.

An added bonus with the piss tank removed is that I can put a set of AMP 2500 (gasser)

Boards on.
