Window switch swap

I'm looking to change out the passenger window control switch for one that does the 'auto up' also, like the one on the drivers side. So basically I want to take a drivers side switch and put it on the passenger side, and in the driver's side controls for the passenger side. Has anyone else done this? If so how hard was it to remove the trims?

I'm not trying to convince you not to do this, but the reason it doesn't have auto up on the other windows is because of safety.

It is because of GM lawyers, plain and simple. My wifes 2011 Lincoln MKX has auto up/down on all of the window switches, every one of them as did her 2009 Lincoln MKZ.

As far as the switches I don't believe anyone has tried them, thought process and rumor is the auto up function is controlled by the BCM so the switch will not change that part. Doesn't hurt to try, I would change mine out if it worked.

Pretty sure there is a difference in the switch. You can feel the dual click on the driver side only. Did this same upgrade in my Subaru Legacy GT and loved it. I will be looking into it as well for this.

This has been researched before. It's more than just the switch. There's also a different motor in the door. There are several more wires. I believe to control the anti-pinch feature. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it's a lot more than just changing the switches.

Other companies have had this for over a decade - I don't buy the lawyer BS.

I would love this function on all windows. My wifes 09 vw jetta has it and it is great.

Did anyone try? I was sitting in my truck in my parking garage this morning, holding the up switches, and just thinking, why they hell do I have auto up only on mine, but auto down on them all... Would like to do this as well, if it can be done.

its so you don't accidently squish someone in the window. my wifes CR-V has the auto up on all the windows, and she went to bring one of the rear windows up without looking in the back one time, and almost crushed the dogs windpipe with the window because there was no stop on it if it has any kind of pressure against anything.

BCM controls this. Roll your driver side window down a few inches then disconnect the battery, when you reconnect it the DIC will tell you to raise it to full up so it can learn. A switch alone won't do it.

So basically we all get lawyered because some people don't look at the windows when rolling them up?

I had auto up on my last to vehicles (both German, also, granted one of them was a coupe, so only 2 "front" windows), never had the issue of anyone/anything getting stuck in them, that just seems like legislating things that do not need it. I did have a dog almost get caught in another car, but it had nothing to do with an auto up, she was standing on the window button on the door (why the current buttons, where you have to "pull" up is a much better design than old buttons where you push down and push up). I didn't consider I could have tried to sue Ford, I just made a note to self to turn on the child window locks when my dog is in the car.

The GM trucks wont pinch anything, there is a anti pinch feature built into the BCM that will cause the windows to roll back down if anything stops the window on the way up.

The Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade have auto up on all Windows. Just not our trucks.

That just pisses me off, why skip it on the trucks then, kinda like how we didn't get push-button start... my freaking key fob still annoys the hell of me hitting the column and occasionally the shifter, but that is more understandable, since there would be a much bigger cost involved in the inclusion.

If your key hits your shifter (my 2014 did), GM now has a different, smaller key that clears it. I think you can bring your dealer your keys, show them, and they'll replace them with the new smaller keys.
