Ok here is an engine with 332k miles on it and that is the engine, the oil has 329,148 miles on it.  Now I know this isn't a GM product but it is interesting to see what is out there in the real world. It is posted by an independent and not the owner.

Oh and notice THIS IS NOT AN AMSOIL SITE EITHER!!!!! You can read what others have posted about this analysis. If you figure oil changes with regular Rotella at 5k miles at $1.50 a quart (I'm not sure of Rotella's price). That would be 66 oil changes totaling $990 bucks for just the oil.

Now the cost for just regular filter change at $18 a filter at 25k miles = $234 for 13 changes in the 329,148 miles

Bypass filter change at $35 a filter at 50k miles = $245 for 7 changes in 329,148 miles

This totals $469 for filters.

Factor in oil analysis at $28 an analysis at 25k miles = $364 for 13 tests in 329,148 miles

$469 + $364 = $833

13 top off's of oil at $20.50 for 4qts x 13 = $266.50

$833 + $266.50 = $1099.50

Now regular Rotella 10 qt system x $1.50qt = $15 a change

x 66 changes in 329,148 miles = the $990 in oil

Regular oil filter change 66 x $12 a filter = $792

$990 + $792 = $1782 total

That is $682.50 more for 5K oil changes.

ok $12 for a regular filter is high, lets say

$7 a filter x 66 = $462

$990 + $462 = $1452

That is $352.50 more even with the cheaper oil filter.

Oh here is the site 329,148 oil change

I know only crazy fools do this kind of stuff but hey here is proof it can happen with good results.

Yes this if if you put serious miles on your vehicle. Some of us on here do.

I think Broker put 584k on his one Dmax and it was a 2001 model and he did regular oil changes at 7k or as he put it "once a week".

Ok I didn't include tax, that will vary per state.  :flag:

Now this was posted for your reading pleasure please don't beat me up to much, I have a wife and two kids to feed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it wasn't uncommon for diesels to get 300,000+ miles out of them regardless of what oil was used!

I think the point is they got 300k miles w/o changing the oil.  The point is the money they saved without aparently damaging the engine. :thumb:

Between, you, me, the wall, and the fly sitting on it.  I don't care what oil may last 300k without changing it in a crankcase, I ain't gonna attempt to duplicate their results!

It's nice to be able to brag about that though!   :thumb:
