2014 denali rim leak caused by corroding rim

Salt has very little do to with oxidation on aluminum wheels, it actually comes from moisture in the air lines used to inflate tires. The best advice I can give you is to use Nitrogen because the molecule itself is thicker and thus does not leak out as fast, and its also an inert gas so its free of moisture.

The short answer is that nothing you do will stop it from happening it will just slow it down. winter wheels or not, the external environment will have almost no impact on the buildup of corrosion between the wheel/tire

It's the chrome flaking off the rims. The rims are made in China with poor the chrome plating.. You will start to see the chrome flaking off by the tire valve stem also. My Avalanche had the chrome rims with the same problem. I will never buy a vehicle with chrome rims on them if I plan to drive it on salted roads. My brother had a cavalier years ago with chrome rims. I had to sand the bead area of the rim to get all of the flaking chrome off when I installed new tires on his car.I had assumed it was due to lack of washing his car. I always took my Avalanche through the car wash after it got salt covered, but it had the same problem after a couple of years.

I was very happy that they switched to polished rims on the 2015 Denalis. They aren't as shiny as chrome, but I don't have to worry about the chrome flaking off. I probably would have bought an All-Terrain instead of a Denali if the Denalis still had the chrome rims.

My 2002 silvy had AL rims and even though they looked like crap after 13 salty winters they never lost their beed.
