Denali Grill on 03 Tahoe?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone attempted to put the Denali style grill(the chrome one with the round holes in it) on a Tahoe?  If so how hard was it? And where did you get the parts?

thanks

Not a Denali grill but for X-mas this past year I got a Putco Punch grille for my Sierra.  Seeing them side by side the difference is obvious but I think, for what it's worth, it looks pretty good.  Had a few misgivings to start but it's really grown on me.  Installation is easy 4 or 6 screws and clamps that hold it onto the factory grille.  Cost... as memory serves something like $150.

Hope it helps.  Probably can get a newer clearer picture if you're interested.

Thanks JAFO.  You truck looks alot better IMO.  The problem I have is the the Yukon and the Tahoe grill is different.  I went and talked with the local Chevy and GMC parts departments and basically what I found out was that I could replace my grill with one made for the Yukon, because all the bolts are in the same spot, problem is that it would have the GMC letters on the front.  Looked at the GMC logo and its part of the plastic so there isnt any way to get around it unless I cut it out.  Probably what I am going to do is just keep my grill and get one that has a similar pattern.  I saw some made by DJ Motorsports and Trenz that I like.

Apex, sorry!  Guess I sort of vegged out and didn't notice you had a Tahoe... Check out Putco's website.  They have Punch grilles for the Tahoe as well as grilles without the GMC cut outs (part # 84115).  Perhaps you could do a little surgery to the Yukon grille to remove the letters and add a bowtie... say like the ones from the front of LT-1 Camaros or those offered here to the front.

Hope this sort of makes up for my "blonde" moment, as I've been told they're called.  Once again sorry.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Apex, you would NOT be able to bolt a Denali grille onto your tahoe with out extensive modification to your tahoe's front end. Its important to notice that the Denali grille and a regular Yukon grille are more different than just the holed insert, check the pic and you'll notice what I'm talking about. Not only would you need the new grille, you would need Denali Turn/DRL lamps, Denali or Yukon headlights, and if order to fit the two new pairs of lamps, your would need yukon or denali (either would do) side fenders (yes the entire front side panel), and a GMC hood. Also take a look at the bottom of your Tahoe grille and you'll notice it is straight. Now look at JAFO's grille, then notice the how the bottom of his grille is lower and the bumper is different to accomadate it. And if you were to bolt on a denali grille you would need the denali bumper cover for accomadate that grille.

To see exactly why you would need the new fenders and the new headlights, click on the World icon below this post, and look at the differences between the front of my Silverado with a Tahoe grille, and my Denali. You'll see that the headlight is the main problem as GMC versions have different fenders and hoods to accomadate the GMC headlamps.

Dont worry about the "blonde moment" JAFO, I have had many of them.

Thanks for pointing out those differences Silverado3500.  I didnt notice the bumper difference on the Yukon's.  Basically what I wanted to do was have the punch style grill that the Denali has(the one with the round circles).  I like the way the Yukons/Denali's have that large area for the grill, but this is just getting too costly.  I think I am going to just put a punch style grill on my Tahoe and not remove the entire grill.  I saw one that looked good on stylinconcepts that I may buy.  Either that or I will go with a billet grill.

Thanks for all the help guys!
