4.8 No Power/randomly shuts off

So I've had this 03, 4.8 for awhile and it has absolutely no power. It can barely haul me around. When I get it loaded with 3 or 4 people it just screams going up hills. It has no power what so ever. It can barely get up to an maintain highway speed. Its just gutless and she's always just screaming and its sluggish. Anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this? I tried putting in a new fuel filter but that didnt help. Also sometimes when im driving an then stop and make a turn my idle goes down and it idles rough and shuts off while im making a turn! It only happens at slow speeds though. What could be causing that?

If the truck was 'alway like that', why did you buy the truck?

Sounds like you need to find a good shop that know what they are doing to take it to before randomly replacing parts. A compression test is definitely in order the way it seems.

 

What you are describing sounds like you have an engine issue. The truck may be down a cylinder, need plugs & wires, or need a total rebuild depending on what a shop finds......Good luck and be sure to post the results.

Diagnostic obdii codes would help, as would a myriad of other basic diagnostic info such as milage and basic condition.

Trucks in mint condition. It has 17xxxx kms on it. My engine light isn't one so I'm not getting codes. Its just always sucked for power.

Try cleaning out your throttle body.

 

Put in new NGK plugs

 

Check air filter

 

Run some seafoam through tank

 

CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE

You said it screams but yet has no power? You may have a problem in your trans as well. If the trans is slipping you will have similar symptoms.
