2015 Yukon - Rattle in center console/dash

Hey group,

My first post here. I've done some digging but haven't found any information on this issue.

My wife has a 2015 GMC Yukon Denali.

Since purchase we have been back to the dealer for replacement of the steering column, repair of the rear lift gate, and most recently repair of the radio lift screen.

All of those issues seem to have been fixed. Not 100% sure on the radio screen but it is currently working.

The main issue that we have had from day one is an annoying rattle that seems to come from the space between the radio screen and the cup holders. It is not constant but if you drive more than 10 miles you will hear it at some point along the trip. It is annoying enough to be heard above the radio. On a long trip it will drive you mad.

We've had it back to the dealership at least 6 times for this issue. They acknowledge the issue and seem to be trying to fix it but no luck thus far. Translating my wife's relayed message it sounds like they are putting more insulation into the cavity. I can imagine this is a tough issue to diagnose.... Any ideas? Any advice? Spent a lot of money on this truck to ride down the road disappointed.

Other than these issues we actually like the truck. Just want it fixed!

Not trying to be a dick but im sure this will make me come off as one. But, have you guys raised the screen to see if there is anything in that compartment thats rolling around?

there isn't anything in the compartment behind the screen.

The noise is coming from below the screen. Between the AC controls and the cup holders. As if the metal face plate isn't fastened correctly.

I have the same issue with my 2015 Denali. Already been to the dealer once, going to take it back again. Didn't pay 70k for a rattle trap.

Has anyone figured this problem out I have the same issue on my 2015 GMC Yukon and it drives me insane I have taken it to 3 dealerships several times but the rattling continues

I can't help with a solution, but have a similar rattle. I have not had my dealer look at it. I forgot about it when I had it in for service.

I now own a 2016 Yukon Denali and mine is doing the same thing. Rattle (almost like a knocking) sound right in the same area as the other posts. My 2015 Chevy Tahoe LTZ did the same thing as well. It is violently annoying. It does not occur at all times, just on occasion. The dealer's service writer confirmed the noise but when the tech rode with of course they could not duplicate it for him. $70 grand for a truck that rattles. It seems GM is not addressing the issue at all. Has anyone had it into the dealer with a fix or a TSB yet? This is complete BS that they cant find the problem. I have had Two Trucks with the same problem now. 15 Tahoe and 16 Yukon. Can anyone help? GM are you reading these?

Just a follow up from the OP. We are still dealing with this issue. I believe our dealership is out of solutions to try as they are not being as easy to work with. For example we have been waiting a week for a call back from the dealership to bring it in. Good luck to all of you working on this issue.

Forgot to mention, a friend of mine ran across this list. I'm taking it in whenever our dealer calls us in. Not sure what they've tried so can't say if these fixes have been attempted.

We recently purchased a new 2016 Tahoe LT. Have about 2,000 miles on it. Like some others we are also experiencing the annoying creak/chatter from the center stack area. Certain types of bumps really set it off. We have had it into the dealer once but,as usual, they could not replicate the noise. On certain types of road it is very annoying. The noise seems to come from the radio area but also from the cup holder/binnacle area. Has anybody had any success in getting this resolved?

I have this same issue. Now my rear entertainment system and cd players do not come on. I wonder if this is a wire that rattled loose?!

Same dang thing here! I have a 2015 Tahoe LTZ and have started to notice the sporadic rattle....I'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully someone will figure it out and post it!

Update: We picked the truck up late last week after another round of repairs. The service manager told me they pulled the entire console apart. They are tired of seeing us. They had previously tried all of the recommendations in the bulletin I posted. This time one of the mechanics found a screw that mounts a part of the sub-dash assembly that once fully installed was resting right up against a metal part. The thought is this screw was rubbing the metal part causing the ratlle. The screw was removed and replaced with a shorter screw that doesn't touch the metal. So far (one week later) it hasn't rattled. Hope this helps everybody.

I may be able to offer some help on this subject. Our 2016 Tahoe has had the same creaking noise that you have all referred to- in the radio faceplate area and cup holder area. I recently posted above on March 20th. Had our Tahoe into the dealer but, as usual, they could not replicate the noise. They asked me to come back to go for a ride with the service manager but I felt this was kind of a "catch22". So, I took our Tahoe to the shop that services my cars-the owner is very particular. I had discussed the problem with him on the phone and he suggested we remove the center console bezels and I drive the Tahoe without them to see if the problem went away. We could then reinstall them one at a time to see when the problem reoccurs. The more I drove the Tahoe, the more I felt the problem was being caused by the console panel that contains the cup holders and small storage binnacle. So, I went into his shop on Friday and we removed the cup holder part of the console. We put a towel underneath this section so it would not scratch the wood grain trim on each side of it, left the seat warmers, cigarette lighter, etc all plugged in and I drove the car around for about an hour. I drove over all of the roads that had caused the dash area to creak previously. The noises all went away-the dash/console area was dead quiet. I went back to his shop to figure out a solution. What we think is happening is this- the center console section fits very tight to the control panel for the rear a/c-In several places it would appear that there is no clearance. We think that over certain types of bumps the center console section is putting pressure on the plastic sections above it-the a/c panel and the radio panel; also the center console/cup holder section is tweaking also causing creaks. The center console/cup holder panel is retained in place with 8 metal clips that are pushed over 8 male prongs four of which push and lock into the lower dash section and the other four lock into the area in front of the large console. We removed the four front metal clips from the center console/cup holder section and cut 4 pieces of cloth which we then put in front of the holes that these metal clips lock into. We pushed this console section forward, into place, and then locked it down with the remaining 4 clips that are mounted at the rear of this section. By doing this, the four front male prongs are encased in cloth. We would have liked to also do this with the 2 metal clips that are in the middle area of this console section but felt we could not as it needs to be locked down. I have test driven our Tahoe all weekend over the roads that have caused it to creak annoyingly- the noise has been reduced significantly. I think if we removed the two additional clips mentioned above the results would be even better. I feel we have reduced the noise by 90-95 percent. I don't know if this will help others but, so far, it has made a significant difference in our Tahoe.
