Wheel width question

we have some really smart guys and girls on this forum...me not so much when it comes to this so I need your opinions. currently running 305/70/17's on stock wheels which I believe are 17x7. When in reverse and full turn to my left only, I get a little rubbing. Question I have is if I was to go to 17x9's, would this rub even more, like when I'm making a hard right or left turn...or would they just stick out more...or both?

If both, would a certain offset/spacing eliminate this? I can live with the slight rubbing I get now, but don't want to get to the point where I'm just pulling into a parking space and I get the same rubbing.

thoughts?

Are they rubbing on the inner fender or on the sway bar or control arms? The width of the rim won't matter if the tire is the same. It is the offset of the rim that changes things. If the tires are rubbing on suspension components, then a rim with an offset that pushes the rim out futher will cure this. But if the tire is rubbing on the inner fender then it could make it worse. It all depends....,

I believe it's rubbing on the inner wheel well...how can I tell...get down under there when I hear it rub? They do offer this rim in several different offset's...any idea what type of offset I'd need to go with? definitely not changing my tire.

Yes you could look when you hear it but there should be some rub marks on something whether it is the inner fender or the sway bar. Factory wheels are +26mm offset I believe. What you need for offset depends on the rubbing. Most rims are offered in something like zero or +20 offset meaning they sit either 26mm or 6 mm out further than stock.

If it is rubbing on the inner fender then you may be able to just pull the inner fender back a bit with zip ties or some other way. Pushing the rims out further in this case might not help or make it worse. And I don't think you can push them in more than stock as they will probably rub on suspension parts. Hope this helps.

thanks! so I got out and looked and they rub on the insulated part of the fender...I can push the insulation back and I can put my fingers between the tire and where it's rubbing so I wonder of there's a way to permanently get that out of the way.

so would getting a +20 offset or something like that help or hurt my situation? it's definitely notrubbing on the suspension parts.

thanks for your help

I have read about people drilling some holes through the inner fender and tying it back somehow. Using zip tys or wire to hold it back to the frame somehow. Odds are a smaller offset won't help with the rubbing you have but maybe someone else who has had this problem can chime in and confirm as I am not sure.
