MODIFIED Integrated Trailer Brake

I'm wanting to add a trailer brake controller and would really like to use the factory GM dash/bezel brake controller. I have read through all the posts and I know it can NOT BE DONE aftermarket, to work with the factory software. What I'm thinking about doing is combining the factory GM dash brake controller with the Hopkins InSight Flex-Mount Brake control: http://www.hopkinstowingsolutions.com/products/brake-controllers/insight-flex-mount-brake-control.html

This particular brake control comes with 3 components: display, control and smart-box. Would it be possible to wire the GM controller, in place of the Hopkins control, but still utilize the display and smart-box. This would give me the factory look of the integrated trailer brake controller, that would display on the Flex -Display and work using the Flex-Smart-box. Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions???

So you want to buy the GM slider, mount it in the dash, but have it communicate with the Hopkins system?

If it was a standard VR slider, it might work, but the GM and Hopkins sliders would have to have the same resistance values across the entire range. Looking at the images, it appears that there are additional controls on the Hopkins slider control, so I don't see that scenario working.

I think your better bet is to figure out a way to mount the Hopkins unit in the dash.

That's what i was hoping to do, if I could get the GM slider to communicate. I'm not sure about the resistance values???

There should only be 3 outputs on the Hopkins slider: gain(plus/minus), the slider and the sensitivity toggle button. I was hoping it would correspond with the outputs from the GM slider.

Option B was to install the Hopkins slider in the dash. If I can find a GM slider on eBay for a decent price, I may give it a try and do some testing.

Appreciate your input.

I too have wondering if something similar can be done. I understand if you don't have the factory one then theirs no way to add it but I would much rather have the controls in an OEM spot.

Why do t you just buy all the GM components

It is not a plug and play system. If your truck didn't originally come equip with it, then I can't be programmed to take it.

On Ebay the controller switch is $35 and the module is $65.

Someone will figure out how to program it soon if they haven't already.

I am going to attempt this soon.

I have someone willing to try the programming.

Let us know how it goes. I would love to do this but I have very little computer skills.
