2012 Sierra 2500hd adding remote start

hello, I have a 2012 gmc sierra 2500hd work truck, it does not have keyless entry. is it possible to add a remote start to my truck? thanks!

It depends if you have a specific room code in the glove box. Do a search for it. If you have the correct code, you can add it for a reasonable price but without it you'll need to do after market remote start.

Ap8 I believe is the rpo code. Search remote start in the 2007-2013 forums. Lots of data there for you.

thanks, I checked and I don't have ap8. so that means I can't do a factory remote start? are any of the aftermarket kits reliable/ safe?

Your truck have power locks? unlock one side, the other side unlocks? IF it has power locks, an aftermarket set up will start your truck and also run the door locks. Most work trucks have roll up windows and manual locks though, I am Not sure but I believe the remote starter needs to lock the doors to function, although some manufacturer can probably program that feature out, and just use the brake pedal switch to shut it off if key is not in.

Viper makes a nice remote start. I had one I moved into 3 trucks and never failed to work.
