2016 Sierra headlights on my 2015

Hey there Folks,

Has anyone looked into swapping in the new 2016 hid headlights and led tail lights from a 2016 sierra into a 2015 sierra? Would there be complications with wiring? has anyone seen the wiring setup on the headlights of a 2016 yet?

I'm looking into the same thing. I can't locate a new set of headlights though. It's gonna be a while before were able to grab a pair unfortunately.

I originally looked into swapping the new tail lights onto my 15 but after reviewing both wiring diagrams decided to not do it. There are changes in the wiring for the new led tail lights so there would be wiring modifications needed. However, they will fit physically on the truck with no problem. As far as the headlights are concerned, I would think the same applies.

Instead of swapping lights, you opted to swap the whole truck? hahaha

Hi, I just put the new 2016 sierra 1500 headlights and taillights on my 16 Denali HD. They look sweet. If anyone is interested in how to wire them to make all the options work just shoot me an email [email protected]. I'll post pics soon but it was pretty simple. Every thing fits like factory but you do have to wire the new headlight harness to get them to work. The taillights are plug and play.

Slt lights. Not the sle lights with the amber turn signal but the turn signal is led as well. I'm trying to upload pics from my phone but it's saying the file is too big. Sorry I'm new to this forum, can anyone help me out on posting pics of this retrofit?

Yeah those lights. I did the install a few months back.I saw he mentioned that the led running lights don't cut off when the turn signal is applied during the daytime. I thought they were suppose as well but after visiting a gmc dealership and test driving a 1500, I found put they don't cut off from the factory either. The new Chevy lights do but not the gmc. I was gonna wait until the 2017 HD came out but once I saw the press release from gm that no changes would be made to appearance of the hd, I bought the lights the wiring harness and got to testing. I'm not sure why he has resistors and relays in his harness, but maybe he's trying something different cause if you look at the wiring schemes, all that is already there at the fuse box.

The GMC's DRL does cut off when the turn signal is applied while in gear. As far as the wiring/relays/fuses etc, it was because when I attempted this no one knew if it would work or not and gen5 made me a harness to try. The headlights being LED non canbus caused an issue so they needed their own power source. Note those were installed on a 14 All terrain not a 16 HD. After some playing around I found that I was able to get them to work with a repin of the OEM harness and a capacitor added inline with the headlights so no more harness.

Working on it still. I have some morimoto switchback drivers that should do the trick. Heres a video of the DRL shutting off:

Hey how's it goin. I tried those Morimoto switchback drivers and I couldn't get them to work because they work by cutting the ground to each light to turn it off but the lights inside the headlights all share a common ground. Any thoughts on this? I was thinking maybe going into the headlight and separating the grounds individually to make it work or maybe use a relay somehow I don't know. Have any input? I'm sure we can figure this out

These are going on a 2014 sierra. Lots of changes to these lights though. Diode Dynamics leds, new projectors, halos, ect. I wish gm hadn't changed the main plug on the headlights. If they hadn't it would be much easier to just rewire the lights to be just about a direct plug n play with older generation trucks. The gen5 diy harness works well though.

Apparently the ones up here on Canada have the drl off where the amber led come on. I have no idea why maybe some regulation. I imagine it uses a switchback board on the lower portion. Might not be possible without cracking open the light and adding this.

 

I wonder if the guy above with the blacked out ones seen inside... is it one solid drl board or 2?
