truck topper ?

Hi all,

 

 I found a leer fiberglass topper for a very cheap price $100. it fits a 95-98 chevy short bed truck.   I have a 99 GMC Sierra EXT cab with the short bed on it.  This topper should fit my truck right?   I can't find any sizes on the short bed in those years, but i'm sure they haven't changed that much. and a short bed on a regual cab, is the same lenght of an ext cab truck?   is that statement correct.  

 

 Also if this does fit, wont know till this weekend,in my wifes home town, how hard would it be to just paint the white topper to match my pewer truck?  they have the matching paint at auto store,   Would i need some kind of primer first, or just use the pewter color?

I was under the impression that an older body style cap/topper won't fit a newer body style truck.  

 

If it were to fit, an auto paint shop would probably prep/spray it for $200.
