Lifting a 2003 Silverado 2500HD

Recommended Posts

I am planning on buying a 2003 CC shorbox with the Allison Tranny (Haven't decided on the Duramax or 8.1 yet).  I have read as many posts I could find about lifting.  From the posts and vendor offerings, it looks like a 6" is the most popular.

Are there any issues that I should consider or be aware of when lifting a 2500HD versus a 1500?

The only real reason I would be lifting is for aesthetics.  I have no plans to do an real offroading (although you never know).

I will be towning a car trailer at least couple times a month.

Any and all input and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Any lifted HD would look awesome!  I wish I had deep enough pockets when I bought my truck last year.  The stock HD sits higher then a regular stock 1500 so you'll gain added height compared to a lifted 1500.  As for towing you will have no problems however you'll need to get some sort of bar type of thing to connect your trailer to.  No big deal they sell them everywhere (Pepboys, Chiefs, AutoZone).  But the real consideration is the cost.  I think a '6 lift for your HD will run you $2800 installed, then your will of course then need to run (or want to, it will look funny with the stock tire) bigger tires which will run you $200 + per tire +mount & balance.  Then add to that a programmer (Hypertech or Predator) $300 $400 respectively to correct the Speedo & odometer.  Your lift, tires, wheels (maybe, figure $200 each) & programmer will run you about $4,000.  Not a cheap endeavor.  But well worth it.  Good luck and show us pics.
