Elite Engineering 6.2L (L9H) Catch Can Issues

I bought a catch can for a 2010 Chevy Silverado 6.2L. There doesn't appear to be instructions on their website for our trucks and I am having some trouble figuring out what the intended design was.

First is what is in the box. It discusses 2 x 10mm bolts on the drawing but I was only given what appears a 25mm and a spacer. There is also a rubber gasket that I am not sure where it goes. Perhaps on the separator inside? It is smaller than the entire unit. I also have 3 adapters for the can, not sure if it is for choice or what.

Second is the stock PVC system. There isn't a clear indication of what the PVC is, but my guess is a very small hose that seems to run from a noise deadning baffle towards the fuel rail on the passenger side. I didn't see a PVC valve and it seems quite small. If this is the connector, the connector into the stock intake is a press in style, not sure if it is expected to cut it or what the idea is.

Finally is the mounting location. Originally I thought that removing the ground bolt onto the block was the location, however once mounted it interferes with the intake and would be impossible to empty it later. If you use the blocks slightly farther up the block I think I would require the smaller 10mm bolts as the 25mm bolt and spacer doesn't seem to make any sense. I also have two crush washers hence why I believe I may be missing it.

Help please, just spent 1.5 hours dinking around only to put it back together.

There is a long catch can thread. Elite engineering has been part of the discussion drop them a PM or call them up

Ryan

Yeah I read one, that you linked a bigger one that is 86 pages long. I read as much as I could but there wasn't anything specific about install that I saw. Perhaps I missed it. I was hoping someone had some answers who did the install before because I can't be the only one who this makes no sense to and didn't get instructions.

Yeah I emailed them before I made the thread. Was hoping the answers were quick or someone had a quick link to something. As for the catch can thread. I've re-read it up to page 40 again and so far only the 2014+ 6.2 is being discussed. The new one sure doesn't match our truck layout. I'll keep reading but are you sure they address our year truck? I don't meant to doubt you I am just starting to feel crazy. Haha

Well got to page 53 and saw a post about how 'simple' the old 6.2 is. Maybe I am totally over thinking this. I also wonder if I was playing with the valve breather and not the actual pvc system.

Thanks man. Well I see 2 problems already with what I was working on. What the hell is the little breather on the intake closer to the air box.... haha.

Guess I'll have to look at it more tonight when I am home.

Hey Cosworth, I'm in just about the same boat as you, just not as far along. I have a 2012 Yukon XL with the 6.2. I've been wanting to order a catch can from Elite Engineering for just over 2 weeks. I've unfortunately had no response from the company after a couple emails and voicemails. I've read everything I can find on the forums and can't clarify some questions.

But I believe the short hose on the passenger side connecting the valve cover and intake is the "intake breather hose". It's purpose if I understand correctly is to breath clean air back to the motor while the PVC on the drivers side exhausts air to the intake (catch can side).

Which can did you end up purchasing?

Yeah the more minute details I gather the more it appears I was looking in the wrong place. Crap and I've already cut the hoses to length too.

I bought the elite e2 can. I've got a hold of 'steve' I can pm you his email when I get home.

So found a suitable mounting point. I'm keeping all the photos to write a how to. Want to check what hose you guys cut though. It seems strange to me since it appears to connect to some sensor.

Pictures attached. This is what e.e. told me to put the catch can inline with this.

And it comes out of this...

So that is NOT the PVC line as I suspected. Found it through a GM parts site. Going to post a how to because this was way too much research for a non-mechanical person to do if they don't have help.

Edit: if anyone is looking for the how to thread: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/180365-how-to-catch-can-on-l9h-62l-engine-pre-2014/

    • Well, I received a message from the dealer...
    • The no sound problem is the audio amplifier. The audio amp has a heatsoak issue in some circuitry which causes it to miss the wakeup handhake. If it doesn't respond within a certain time parameter, then you get no sound. I brought it in and had the software update, but after further testing the tech made the call for a new audio amplifer. The software update I belive gives more time for the amp to respond, but if the amp is defective then you can still get no audio at times. After the update it went 12 days before no sound. After doing some research, apparently the fix is a new (updated) audio amplifer, the circuitry internally has been improved to better deal with heat. I had to wait 2 1/2 weeks because at the time, it was on backorder with no eta. Well the amp came in earlier this week. I had the amp and programming work done today. After picking it up I stopped at a few places, and whenever I started my truck, the audio was on instantly, so whatever they did it appears to work because it's never had sound that quickly......Hope this helps
    • Make sure the latch mechanism is properly greased. Look at the catch for fresh marks/scratches. And see if it has moved a little, too.
    • I have the 18" black mutilspoke wheels that came with my truck. I like them as they are very subdued and look good with the 295/70's    I am sure that the next set of wheels I get will be some after market all black wheels. Or maybe some AT4X wheels.
    • Interesting question which you partly answered in the word 'potentially'. I think that is going to be a 'point of reference' inquiry. What are the touchstones?    This will sound petty but it is the main source of end fighting in threads on this topic. Define a motors "Life". Think about the various arguments that have been entertained on these pages in that very argument.    I can only speak from my viewpoint. Engine "Life" in my world is defined by power cylinder integrity. For the majority of engines it is the bore/ring interface that quits first. Loss of seal. Oil consumption and loss of power. Most Pro motor builders would agree and there is a good deal of information on using "Leak Down" as a primary indicator of bore integrity. At home a compression test is more the thing. If we can agree on that then I think CC Jensen has done its homework and I'd find it valid.    Now by my own definition, Dizzy, wife's Ecotec 2.4 I-4 has been dead since about 80K miles. And yet we have logged over 200K miles more on it. "Life" and "Usefulness" are therefore independent.      I know a mature fella right now who has just hit 300K on a Mitsubishi 3A92 NA MPFI motor and has done compression test every 100K. It was 205 psi after break in and is now about 195 and still even. He uses shelf oil but good filters and adheres to a 3K mile OCI. He even do UOA's on each of them for the first 50K.      I also know a fleet mechanic with that same motor that gets 300 to 500 K out of them but the are oil using, wristpin sloppy, skirt slapping motors. He ran one with a piston pin so loose the piston was bouncing off the cylinder head for about 20K miles before he called TOD. Both of them claim success.
