Hmm, starter

Drove over to a friends house this eveing, turned the truck off, about 30 minutes later I went to leave, and she wouldn't start. Just a clicking sound. Tapped the starter a couple times with my Mag-Lite and she started right up.

A new starter might be my next new mod. I hate starters. I have the worst luck with them. 2 on the Beretta, 3 on the '91 Silverado, and 2 on my wife's current ford.

Should I find the fellow that backed into my truck the other day and tell him he broke my starter?

I have put 4 in the Blazer in the last 10 years. I can almost do them in my sleep.

Maybe you should get frequent starter miles. After 10 starters you get one free.

Before you replace the starter, dbl check all your cables and connections...

My 400 small block that I stuffed in my 79 4x4 stubby used to cook starters all the time.

In fact, I use to hot wire the factory solenoid on the GM starter with a piece of custom cut copper plate. Then, I mounted a Ford solenoid (Yeah I know..I sinned) up on the firewall.

Ya know what this did for me right? It did seem to make the starters last longer but they still got eaten regularly.

I bought the lifetime warranty starters from Autozone and on 3 different occasions did this: Roll started the truck down the driveway, drove to Autozone crawled under it and pulled the easy to reach 9/16 bolts out, unhooked the battery leg from the ford solenoid carried the very hot starter into the store swapped my copper plate and battery cable over, went back out to the truck and stuck it on.

I got to where I could do it in under 20 minutes.
