I own an '01 silverado 1500 Z71, and I need to change the oil because I don't know when it was last changed. What is the best oil for the truck and bare in mind it has 162k miles on it.

Any brand name oil, dino or synthetic. I can consistently buy synthetic cheaper after rebate than dino oil. Again any of the top brand oils will serve you well.

Now come all the other opinions naming brand names......

Plenty of threads on the site that have discussed this subject to death. Might search a bit

taxb, pretty much covered it. Change it out and set up a schedule and your truck with serve you well.

Don't forget to hit the grease fittings while you are under there. You should have 11 spots to grease. One as well possibly on the front drive shaft.

Plus the idler arm and there is a fitting on top of it. Some on the steering link, you might have to turn the wheels to get to the fitting.
