There are no 921/912 red leds (T15 or W16W size). There are the smaller 168 (T10 or W5W) size red leds. And those are the cheap ebay chinese leds.I would advise against those and do some research to see the issues with those failing and overall lack of reliability. I guess you could buy a few extra. But the problem with led retrofits is that the vehicle diagnostics will not alert you when one goes out (unless they are canbus which we do not have). That being said, I recommend Sylvania or Philips brand only. There is a bigger 7443 size red LED which i bought (Philips) and modified as in the pictures.

To use the red 7443 in the center brake light, you will either have to modify the plastic brake housing or mod the bulb to fit. Either way, the base will have to be modified to fit the socket. You can enlarge the oval slot in the light housing or trim the big end of the bulb (I used a dremel). The slot measures about 5/8". The base was narrowed to be about the same width as the 921. The contacts have to be modified as in the pic in order for the brighter mode to work. The outer most contacts were cut at the bottom, folded around and soldered to the one closest to it. I will test and get some pics this weekend.

The bulb will not fit through the socket opening. You can't cut it down enough as the internals are too big. So it needs to be placed into the housing first, fished down to the socket opening, plugged into the socket and the socket then connected to the housing.

After installing the Sylvania branded bulbs, the Philips 921 I ordered from eBay came in. I did a comparison of the two in the cargo lamps, should have taken a picture, and was blown away by the improved quality the Philips has. So, I've ordered one more pack of the bulbs to finish up and have everything switched to the same brand.

Really though, what does an LED in the 3rd brake light in these trucks get you beyond what is there now? I assume crisper on / off but the light still won't look like a true LED light housing, correct? Or am I overthinking things.
